It's been less than a week since fruit wreaked havoc with Ashton Kutcher's digestive system, but now veggies are suffering some reputational damage, too. According to the CDC, lettuce and other leafy greens are responsible for 2.2 million food-borne illnesses every year. And to make matters worse, produce (including fruit, vegetables and nuts) sickens 4.4 million people annually. Bet your mom didn't know that when she ordered you to eat your veggies as a kid. In comparison, contaminated meat causes just 2.1 million illnesses per year. Oh, sorry, did you order a salad for lunch? Might want to swap it for a cheeseburger.

i was a vegetarians for 7 years and twice, for about 6 months each time, did a raw food diet. i never had any problems with those diets, nor with a meat diet. i also know many vegetarians who have not had these issues of ill health from their foods.
a book i read about raw foods, claimed that they have all the natural ingredients to break themselves down in the body. therefore not stressing the body.
there are some foods that do need to be cooked. for example soy is said to contain a toxin(i think it is) that needs high temperature cooking to rid the food of the potential danger.
pesticides need to be washed from fruit and vegetables.

They dont seem to enhance your intelligence. Try cooking them and see if that works.Originally posted by Karachi View Post^ I am vegetarian 4 days a week, trust me those 4 days I feel so much better
But it depends how you eat your veggies, I just steam them and eat them. Cooked vegetables are no good"2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote
