  • 10 Afghan children killed in bomb explosion in eastern province

At least 10 young girls have been killed after an explosion in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, officials say.

The explosion occurred in the Charparhar district on Monday morning.

The girls, ranged between nine and 13 years of age, were gathering firewood outside the Dawlatzai village when the explosion took place, said Mohammad Seddiq, a local government administrator.

It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion.

Seddiq said that two other girls were seriously wounded in the explosion and were in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police are scouring the area for clues as to what type of explosive went off, Seddiq said.

    Kabul explosion

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the capital Kabul, a suicide bomber in a small truck detonated outside the entrance to a logistics company, killing at least two people and injuring 15 others, the interior ministry said.

Both of those killed were Afghan civilians, the ministry said. The injured included 13 Afghans and two foreign nationals.

The blast occurred in the Jalalabad Road area, where a number of foreign companies have offices.

Daoud Amini, the deputy police chief for Kabul, said the compound was used by Contrack, a Virginia-based company whose projects include fuel storage, air field construction and tanker facilities.

Large sections of the compound's exterior wall were blown apart and the roof of a building had collapsed. Twisted metal
from shipping containers that had been ripped open by the explosion littered the ground.

Baryalai, a security officer for the company, said the arm of the company that was attacked is building barracks and other facilities for the Afghan army

"There was massive destruction inside ... I was sitting behind my computer when it happened. I was not hurt but I saw many of my colleagues were injured,'' Bashir Farhang, an employee, said of the blast.

In a statement, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

"A suicide car bomber attacked an important American company which is involved in security," Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesperson, said in a statement. "The company was under our surveillance for a long time and today we succeeded."

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Up to 10 Afghan children were killed and two were wounded when a bomb went off in Nangarhar province 120 km east of capital city of Kabul on Monday morning, police said.

"The innocent children were collecting firewood in Salozai area of Chaparhar district at around 9 a.m. local time when one of them step on a bomb triggering a powerful blast leaving the casualties, " police spokesman in the province Hazrat Housain Mashriqiwal told Xinhua.

He said all the killed children were girls aged from eight to 12 years, adding the injured including a boy were in critical condition.

The police official blamed Taliban insurgents for planting the bomb in the area to target the security forces.

Taliban militants, who have been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, have often attacked the Afghan force and the round 100,000 NATO-led force with roadside bombs but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

The Taliban has yet to make comments.

A total of 967 Afghan civilians, including 355 children, were killed and 1,590 injured in conflicts from August 1 to October 31 in insurgency-hit country, according to a UN quarterly report released on Friday.

Talib or mujahid, it's all the same. They just give themselves promotions and name themselves different things once the charm of the older titles wash away and people start seeing them for what they actually are.

In the blast in eastern Afghanistan, Hazarat Hussain Masharaqiwal, a spokesman for the police chief of Nangarhar Province, said that the children discovered the unexploded bomb near their village, and that it went off when they hit it with an ax. The explosion also injured a boy who was with them.

The local police said the bomb probably dated from the civil war or even the Soviet occupation of the country.

The United States-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan said the explosion was caused by the accidental triggering of an old land mine, quoting the governor of Chaparhar District in Nangarhar.

In a statement, Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of American and international forces in Afghanistan, said he was saddened by the girls' deaths. "Over three decades of conflict, Afghanistan became one of the most heavily mined countries on earth," he said.

Sharifullah Sahak contributed reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan, and Khalid Alokozai from Nangarhar.

This thread just shows how lowlifes you two are, instead being sad over this tragic event, you try to make commercial with it for your criminal ideologies.

Same as Toramana, she knows that Afghanistan is nothing of her issue, thats why she stays out of it.
