One passenger in the taxi was killed and three passengers were wounded but there were no other casualties, according to the Kabul police spokesman, Hashmat Stanakzai.
Mr. Stanakzai said the rockets were fired about 6:40 a.m. by remote control, using cellphones, from within the municipal boundaries of Kabul, from the Tara Khel area about two miles northeast of the airport. The area is semi-agricultural and the rockets were believed to have been fired from a vegetable garden, he said.
"Our security team found the area from where the rockets were fired and they found another rocket round in the same place, which was set up and connected with a cellphone," he said.
An official at the Kabul airport, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information, said that two rockets landed in what he called "very sensitive parts" of the airport but that there was no damage or casualties, and flights were not disrupted.
Fazal Karim, the head of Shamshad Television, said that one of the rockets landed in his station’s compound, where the station maintains a museum of war artifacts, and did minor damage. "Thank God, no one was killed or injured," he said.
Sharifullah Sahak contributed reporting.
