This was surprising for me as well.

I was skeptical about the figures above but lately I found that economy of Pakistan based on GDP has grown in the fiscal year 2011-2012 by some 37 billion dollars from 174 billion dollars to 211 billion dollars. Consider the figure below.

It has achieved the 200+ billion dollars target in 2012 whereas the prediction was it will reach that target in 2015. It is now considered the second biggest economy in South Asia.

Its current economic growth rate is 3.7%. Its growth rate for 2013-2014 is predicted to be 4.2%. I think it is going to speed up provided it didn't resort to military adventurism and could restrain terrorism.

Moreover, the population growth rate has a strong relationship with economy and literacy rate/education. I think the population growth is going to slow down in this decade.

But what I realize is that, population size also has something to do with economic growth. Well-developed population human-resource wise boosts economy.

I wonder why Malaysia has not been mentioned though Malaysia is the only country which has not been hit by the recent economic crunch.
And Pakistan 2 trillions figure is wrong. It is actually 20 trillion. They forgot to type 0 there.

I think Australian and Malaysian economies will still be pretty good for their population sizes but don't forget large vibrant populations mean faster and more growth rate. Probably, volume of natural resources and economic policies also count.

Look into other projections --- But what sounds to me is, if Pakistan dealt somehow effectively with this menace of Taleban terrorism and could handle energy crisis, it will cross the 1 trillion dollars target much before as predicted i.e. somewhere by 2025.

I predict its economy will be 400 billion to 600 billion dollars between 2017-2021.

Recently, it has relaxed visa regime with India --- a measure aimed at boosting trade and business between the two countries.

I am not a student of economics though my field is different but if you see the location of Pakistan it can do wonders if it comes out of the international politics and war like situation.
The Gawadar, its border with China and with Afghanistan to central Asian land lock countries. Its hard working man power, coastal, tourism, agriculture, minerals, relations with India and much more.
Pakistan has to potential to make its position in the top economies in the future but that all depends on sincere administration and geo political situation of the region especially relations with its neighbors.
