  • Chemical weapons 'excuse for US to intervene in Syria'

Chinese state media have accused US President Barack Obama of planning to use Syria's chemical weapons as an excuse for intervening militarily.

The state news agency, Xinhua, was responding to a warning from Mr Obama that Syria would be crossing a "red line" if it tried to use such weapons.

"Once again, Western powers are digging deep for excuses to intervene militarily," it said.

China and Russia have blocked attempts to impose UN sanctions on Syria.

Xinhua's commentary is not an official statement but it reflects fears among China's communist leaders that the West wants regime change in Syria under the guise of humanitarian action, the BBC's Damian Grammaticas reports from Beijing.

In Syria on Wednesday, government military operations intensified in the capital, Damascus, and in the second city, Aleppo, activists said.

Opposition activists say more than 20,000 people - mostly civilians - have died since the uprising against Bashar al-Assad began last year.

That which is destructive to a society ends up being deleterious to humanity. Maybe all third world Muslim countries should return their generosity by going over there and introducing their laws and having all their pregnant teens and fornicators stoned to death. You know..., to say thank you in return and see how they would like that.

Was it not this same America that was supplying such chemical weapons to be used in the Iraq-Iran war?

If we were to use America's [double] standards on America itself then it would have been invaded a thousand times over.

any facility that can make insecticide can make chemical weapons. my country didn't supply him chemical weapons but we did help him build a plant to make pesticide. then when he used chemical weapons on the Irani forces, our government wagged the finger of one hand in anger & patted him on the back in approval with the other.

they don't want to see a future brotherhood dominated government with access to these weapons. though i think these kind of weapons are pointless since no one will ever use them, assad won't even use them in a worse case scenario.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
