Iran's missiles can hit US bases in regional countries

http://www.china.org.cn/world/2012-0...t_25813637.htm Xinhua, July 5, 2012 Adjust font size:
A senior Iranian military commander said Wednesday that the country's missiles can hit the U.S. military bases in the regional countries, Press TV reported.

Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' aerospace division, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said that all the U.S. bases in the region are within the reach of Iran's missiles and Iranian missiles could also easily reach Israel.
Meanwhile, the commander made a reference to Iran's launch of ballistic missiles during three-day "Great Prophet 7" drill, wrapped up on Wednesday, and said all the missiles "successfully" hit a designated target that resembled the air bases of foreign countries in the region, according to the report.
Hajizadeh said that the maneuvers were different from the previous ones as all missiles used in the recent exercise were fired at a single target from different locations.
In the meantime, an Iranian lawmaker said Wednesday that the presence of Western warships in the Persian Gulf is detrimental to regional security, said Press TV.
"Global powers have announced that by dispatching warships, they aim to establish security in the Persian Gulf, but now Muslim countries are able to do this by expanding local and regional cooperation and they do not need their (West's) military presence, " Mansour Haqiqatpour said Wednesday.
The lawmaker, a member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, added that Iran closely monitors the West's military bases in Persian Gulf littoral states and the "slightest mistake will cause them and their regional allies regret."
"The IRGC and the Iranian Army's missiles can target and destroy any threatening target in the region. Therefore, if hegemonic countries do anything against the security of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and Sea of Oman, they will definitely incur losses," he was quoted as saying.
Referring to the IRGC's missile exercise in central Iran, Haqiqatpour said the drill is sending a message to transregional powers in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman to avoid testing Iran's defensive capabilities because they will be given a crushing response.

All 35 nearby US bases are in reach of our missiles, Iran declares

‘If we are attacked, the response will be immediate,’ commander says, as Iranian drill tests new anti-ship weapon

The Iranian military on Wednesday fired several of its new Khalij-e Fars (Persian Gulf) missiles at naval targets, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency.
A report by the public relations office of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed that the new missile contains high-precision systems, can carry a 650-kilogram (1,433 lb.) warhead, and is immune to interception.
The missiles were fired on the final day of a three-day military exercise titled “The Great Prophet 7,” during which the IRGC has tested dozens of short-, medium- and long-range rockets as part of a major drill aimed at simulating attacks on foreign targets, Iran’s IRNA news agency said.
On Wednesday, the commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, was quoted by Fars as saying that if Iran is attacked, the response would be immediate. He noted that there are 35 US bases near Iran, all of which “are within the reach of our missiles.” Hajizadeh added that “the occupied lands [Israel] are good targets for us as well.”
“Measures have been devised to set up bases and deploy missiles within the first minutes of an attack to obliterate all these [US] bases,” he said.
Hajizadeh said that the current exercises differed from previous ones in that all missiles were fired at a single target from different locations.
According to Fars, in April, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi saidcryptically that the “Khalij-e Fars missile has been developed somehow different from the usual trend and can change the equations on which the enemy most relies.”
Fadavi also said at the time that Iran now had missiles that can be mounted on high-speed boats and have a firing range of over 200 kilometers (120 miles).
Israel is about 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) away from Iran’s western borders, while the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet is based in Bahrain, some 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Iranian shores in the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian commander quoted by Fars said Iran used both unmanned and manned bombers in the war games and was firing a variety of other missiles. Tehran says the drills aim to assess the accuracy and effectiveness of its warheads and weapons systems.
IRNA said the missiles targeted and destroyed mock positions of “ultra-regional forces” set up in a desert region in central Iran.
The range of missiles being tested included some that Iran has supplied to Hezbollah in Lebanon, Israel Radio said.
On Sunday Hajizadeh said that the three-day missile exercise should be seen as a message “that the Islamic Republic of Iran is resolute in standing up to… bullying, and will respond to any possible evil decisively and strongly.”
“If they take any action, they will hand us an excuse to wipe them off the face of the earth,” said Hajizadeh, evidently referring to Israel.
Hajizadeh also said Iran has produced an anti-radar missile called “Arm” that can hit any source of radar. He said the weapon could travel at several times the speed of sound, had an estimated range of 300 kilometers, and could “damage” missile shields in Turkey and Gulf countries.

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Iran continues to develop its short-and long-range missiles -- now more accurate and deadly than ever, the Pentagon said in a report submitted to Congress.
The June 29 report, submitted to four congressional defense committees under Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta's signature, says "Iran has boosted the lethality and effectiveness" of its existing missile systems and has added "new ships and submarines" to its fleet, Bloomberg News reported.
The Pentagon provides a classified and unclassified assessment of Iran's military power annually in compliance with a 2010 directive.
The latest report affirms Iran supplies aid to the Hamas and Hezbollah terror groups in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, respectively, to Iraqi Shiite groups and to Syria.
According to the report, Iran will have the technical capability to test fly an intercontinental ballistic missile by 2015, if it continues to receive "sufficient foreign assistance."
Iran has deployed a new solid-fuel, intermediate-range ballistic missile while improving and refining the accuracy of its Shahab-3, said Anthony Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.
According to the Pentagon, over the past 30 years, Iran "has methodically cultivated a network of sponsored terrorist surrogates capable of targeting U.S. and Israeli interests."
"We suspect this activity continues," the report states.
Iran is also strengthening its defensive capabilities, "suggesting any action on Iranian soil "will carry risk."
