I rechecked the video, the resistance fighter is thin, his weight some av. 66 to 70 kg.

The problem the U.S forces faced less is that of ammo that misses and does not shoot, because most of these weapons used by the insurgency were soviet made weapons from the 80s...except for the RKG 3.
But stil the insurgents were more intelligent and developed as even for today improvised weaponary.
my apologies, i have to wait for breaks in the class to post. I was based in the eastern part of Al Anbar wuhyalat. i went to Iraq 3 times. my primary activities were route clearance patrols (drive the roads & look for bombs) and watching rocket & mortar launching sites to try to catch the arabs setting up. as a Marine i held military occupational specialties in ground combat jobs & secondary specialties as a marksmanship instructor and recruiter.
I absolutely agree with Catya Sher that most americans are woefully ignorant of other cultures & too utterly arrogant to try to learn.

During which period were you there,as i see you sound like 2004,2005 due to the resurgent of the resistancy later.

Did you shot on any people there ?
Do you think you contributed to the murder of the iraqi people ?
or did you just protected your country ?

            sorry for my questioning.

                Al-Arab asked Tor Gul :

"Were there not better ways of earning those money than invading a completely foreign country that did never like you (do to past crimes by you) and killing people?"

Precisely what I have been wondering as well, all these years.
I'll be interested to hear about himself and/or others he knows,
what their motivations WERE for signing up.

Apologies if you ARE American, Tor Gul. You sound more alert than most military people of the current era.
I am careful to say that, because in times past, at least SOME Americans paid more attention to
learning about the countries they would be sent to.
Today, with the general apathy and bad attitudes of too many in the younger generations,
there seems to be no interest in anything but The Self - and maybe video games...!

I too want to know about whether anyone Tor Gul knew toured the fabulous sites of ancient and Islamic Iraq.
I get the feeling no one ever ventured out to even a Museum in all their time there !

What type of class is it that you are taking? Is it for further deployments,
                or something else entirely ?

Phew, I am glad he is not American. We don't need any more of those troubled soldiers here.

He didn't sound hostile, either, about the video or ideas discussed,so
I guess it IS Afghan. After all, no American would be astutue or subtle enough

They would doubtless consider it beneath themselves to use anything but an American first name...

I am just mentioning this because of the pervasive mentality of ignorance
and arrogance among Americans of today of not even trying to understand people from other cultures.

Well I guess I will look up this PKM on wikipedia.
my apologies, i did not mean to mislead you. I am an American of mixed european and "native american" descent.
I am a Marine (although i left the service over 2 years ago we retain the title for life) so please do not call me a soldier.

                    2004, 2005 & the last time in 2008

i did not shoot anyone unless they were shooting at me or my Marines

I did not nor have i ever condoned violence toward any civilians. in fact I would gladly execute the animals that commit rapes & murders of civilians as IMO they have betrayed the ideals of my country & my Marine Corps and as such are a threat to my country and it's people.

no need to apologize, this is a unique opportunity for civil discourse

War is a racket, in fact Marine General Smedley Butler wrote a book by that title to warn the American people of how business interests had coopted the federal government & was using the military as their personal muscle

my FIRST goal in being a Marine was to ensure my Marines came home to their wives & children. my secondary goal was to ensure none of the Marines i had charge of would commit unnecessary act of violence, in other words to protect noncombatants from any of my Marines that were not raised like i was. an example of this was getting rubber shot rounds for our grenade launchers so my Marines wouldn't kill the sheperds dogs and the dogs wouldn't attack my Marines. after all the sheperds needed their dogs to protect their sheep & goats from the jackals & hyenas. this made for a better relationship. this consideration allowed us to be able to talk with the sheperds in a civil way. that led to us being able to give them mango juice boxes for their children, which in turn led to being warned to stay away from dangerous areas. by being who I am, my Marines learned to respect the Iraqi people and I was better able to bring them home to their wives & children.

america is no different from any other country. that war like many before was fought to make a small number of politicians & businessmen richer.
yes there was a legitimate strategy of fighting in a muslim country to draw potential terrorist to fight us there instead of in the USA, but that truly was of secondary consideration.

And what did you gain? You lost more men than in any other American conflict outside of the US aside from the Vietnam War and WW2.

The Iraq war is probably the most expensive war in history and it contributed to the downfall of the Western economy.
the war wasn't that costly in blood, we had battles in WWII that killed more Marines that ALL the americans killed in Iraq. but that doesn't change the fact that everything else is absolutely accurate.

You might recall something from Iraq's beauty and ancient history although I assume you soldiers did not see much of Iraq apart from the bases you were living in and some night patrols and raids of tiny villages.
one of the most beautiful & my favorite place was a little oasis that was alledged to be a stopping place for Ibrahim. Iraq still has much natural beauty hopefully one day peace will return.

most combat Marines are idealists that believe in self sacrifice for the greater good. others just want a steady job & college benefits. they usually join the Marines and become mechanics, cooks & administrative personnel.

much respect to tor gul for telling us who he is and being respectful to the members here. he obviously is not defending the war, so get off his ass. i wish more non afghans would be as honest, like catya, who will not tell us what she is or her religion but will have the nerve to judge the "pashtunness" of the afghans here.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
