On the matter of this Afghan-Indian marriage or not; I don't usually get involved with marriage politics to tell the truth. To my knowledge they haven't yet named the Afghan princess. (And would it really matter to most of us?) Having a Pashtun forefather is irrelevant. The Elite Persianised or Urduised/Angloised people who make claims of being Pashtun generally have very different attitudes.
Royalty marrying for strategic reasons or for matters of the heart is not unusual. Zohra Mahmoud Ghazi (one of Zahir Shah's grand-daughters) was married to musician Julian Lloyd Webber for about 20 years. They have a son called David. Whatever else you might call Lloyd Webber, the one thing he is unlikely to be called, is an oil painting.
As for Rahul - his background is half Italian Catholic, Kashmiri and Parsi.

I used the Pashtun convention of rounded the relationship with a more general word. A great niece is like a grand-daughter. (What is the Pashto translation of great niece BTW??)
For most Pashtuns that makes Zohra, Zahir Shah's:
لمسۍ/نوسۍNearest I could get to naming the great-niece's relationship to Zahir Shah without using the word grand daughter would be:
د ظاهر شاه د وراره لور
