When you read Herodotus's original, this is actually an unsubstantiated proposition being circulated (just as the revision of history to move the birth place of Ahmad Khan Sadozai to Herat despite the fact that Sadozai family records themselves from the Wazirzadas show that his father fled there during internicine strife and that is why a contingent of Popalzai accompanied Abdali to Panipat as fresh soldiers). Misdaq discusses it earlier in the text and directly refers to Herodotus as well where a good number of scholars still stick to the Paktia is Pactya. If you read the section from Herodotus he discusses how the Pactyans are a contingent working alongside Persians which is where this dispute arises from. However, nowhere does Herodotus make a direct city reference.

pradai 2010 if you are ao happy about a killing 17 afghan civilians for 3 dead nato soldiers ,

why do you not take your mother , father , sister ,brothers and the rest of your family in a car , put a suicide bomb on you and drive to next american base embassy , and blow yourself up together with your family .

you are really just a piece of **** ....

Which scholars ever say Pactyans are in Paktya? By all means quote the sections of herodotus relevant.

Dude thats pretty insulting. I know an Arun Khel girl who married an Ali Sher boy and they consider themselves as one bigger tribe. She tells me that Lakkan is a smaller family or tribe. That is a major problem for your view of Lakkan because they are related to the adjoining tribes by blood.

I told you, Misdaq of the fame of Pashto BBC who has written a superb history of Afghanistan is one such scholar. He blasts the revisionists of the Ahmad Shah Baba rebirthing yet also committs to the same revisionism when discussing Pactya (page 68). He writes about historical interventionalism going way back:
                    http://books.google.com/books?id=Zvm...page&q&f=false

He refers to Paktika and Paktia

The sections of herodotus are simple to find. Here is a 1700s description by Rennell showing how murky the discussion is:
                    http://books.google.com/books?id=kOR...pactya&f=false

                    page xxiii

"Peh Kely I take to be the Pactya of Herodotus"

this is because he is murky in the writings.

Here Gaisford renders yet another possibility:

                    http://books.google.com/books?id=Mts...pactya&f=false

He locates it on a Thracian isthmus

                    Here is the actual history:
                    http://classics.mit.edu/Herodotus/history.6.vi.html

There is but one match to pactya

There is a large amount if alarming revisionism going on by Persianized scholar scimitar. Read it into the above and see the variations even amongst older scholars who were unbiased by todays events.

The issue is that for some stupid reason people are trying to link Afghan heritage to purely one side of Koh e Sulaiman because of an internal psychiatric problem they have.

For instance... neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan existed in the 1700s as they do on a map today. The notion that Zaman Khan, who was married at the time mind you, could not have made his way to Multan despite the confirmed history of Popalzai contingents there is a fear of Pakistan claiming Abdali. There is no way they can do this in any case since both his mother and father were pure Kandaharis.

The issue these revisionists have to wrestle with, besides their psychiatric disturbances about race and the desire to be white, is what to say about Padshah Bibi, the indian wife of Ahmad Shah. Can they write her out of existence too??? Or for that matter, what of Timur Shah's Indian wife is she nonexistent too?

Here is the other place Herodotus discusses them as a people:
                      http://ancienthistory.about.com/libr...odotus_7_4.htm

"The Pactyans were wearers of skin coats[67] and had native bows and daggers: these acknowledged as their commander Artyntes the son of Ithamitres."

The latter two are Persian Army leaders.

Finally, his author writes an excellent discussion about location and debate in Classical Philology:

                      http://books.google.com/books?id=c-8...ctyans&f=false

He discusses how odd it is that people link two disparate peoples; Areminians and Pactyans based on Herodotus and says:

"There appears to be no escape from teh conclusion that Herodotus has put together in one tribute district two widely separated nations."

And finally to add to the confusion:

                      http://books.google.com/books?id=Th3...ktuike&f=false

"The identity of Paktues Paktueka with pashtun, pakhtun (as first advocated by Lassen) has been recently supported by Trumpp and Greirsen but is considered very doubtful by Speigel and Geiger. "

                      http://books.google.com/books?id=Th3...ktuike&f=false

He makes a valid point: the sha sound is older than the kha sound according to even most Pashtun linguists... so the reconciliation here by the Persia obsessed revisionists falls apart.
