Its about control more than anything. Preventing the freedom of movement or limiting it is control. All this talk about sex and what not is just rhetoric. If that was the case one can argue that those women are probably having affairs with their drivers.

I was talking to some saudis online and many of them admitted that these sort of bogus laws are part of their culture rather then Islam, at least the new generation is a bit open minded it seems, but unfortunately Islam gets blamed for all the bad things happening because of culture

actually I'm a bit hesistant about that; because Bedouin women in in Pre-Saudi, Arabistan have traditionally herded caravans of camels and the like and it was pretty prominent. It seems to be just Wahhabism and their idiotc clerics than Saudi culture.
