            I am going to have to disagree here. France has signed an agreement and they must abide by it. AQ attacked a member country so article 5 was invoked for the first time in NATOs history. The military, economic power and unity of NATO was used by the US to make the whole world compliant to Americas wishes. France at the time did not have a choice. But now it is a different world. They do have a choice since people are realizing the truth.

              Yes AQ attacked but the Taliban did not; France was under no obligation to join in that context.

              Read Article 5 of the NATO charter.

              The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
              Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .

                Yes. But NATOs view was to not differentiate between the ones who attacked and the ones who harbors them. This view made no difference between the taliban and AQ. It was to scare everyone to comply.

                    Yes but, thus the NATO charter cannot legitimately be used to lure the French, this was only an excuse. France in other words went willingly.

                      That's not something Bush can enforce on a country like France, because the very same NATO charter prevents America from attacking ANY of the states in the NATO charter. Bush could only impose that on countries like Pakistan
