First, the Ruskies know they dont need to support the Taliban to bleed the Americans out, Afghanistan is a place where this naturally occurs, they know that better than anyone. But the Ruskies fear the Islamists and China more than the Americans for reasons they should, they have border with both. Russias power peaked in the 80's and it will eventually dwindle to soemthing like Turkey.

But they know they need to to get involved somehow to be able to sweep up and step in place after the Taliban ho haywire and create another civil war.

Yes I have read these articles before, still what Russia fronts over what Russia DOES key word here, DOES, are not the same thing. They say they fear U.S withdrawal but they're trying to pave its way? Hmmm

Your contradicting yourself. First you claim the ruskies want americasn to bleed like the ruskies were bled and now your claiming they are paving the way for an exit. Those routes have been open for years and it was to supply NATO troops. Your counter is that those routes were granted so eventually the US would use it as an exit. If I ask why wont the Ruskies close them for supply and just open them for an exit, your reply would be so the ruskies can bleed the americans. If they want to bleed them in Afghanistan, then why not close the Exit route. You dont make sense. The best way to bleed the Americans is not help them at all wheather for supply or an exit, let them figure it out. Force the Americans to invade Iran so they could bleed more, and that way they dont need the Paksitanis nor the Ruskies for supply routes nor an exit route.

Your conspiracy theory is too complex and confusing.

No contradiction if you understand the context, America leaving would constitute that they have suffered military defeat and would wane in their hegemonic power. The funding the Taliban was just improving their stakes on that. If anything you are contradicting yourself here by saying Russians want Americans to stay for their benefit despite helping to pave their exist. There's no conspiracy theory and it isn't complex at all, Taliban admitted Russian assistance, proven, Russians want hegemony, proven, Russians aren't as afraid as they say they are by funneling the NATO exist after a pathetic defeat. All are verified.

Soldat: You oppose Taliban because according to you they are stooges of foreigners and a minority of pashtuns who don't represent the majority of Pashtuns. You say they rule by fear and force and have no legitimacy. Isn't Bashar Al Assad from a minority Alawi sect rulling over majority Sunni nation? Didn't Bashar Al Assad inherit his throne from his father? That is not democracy, That's authoritarian rule of a power hungry person who kills his own people just to stay in power. You criticize others for having links with terror groups but isn't Al Assad a strong ally of Hizbullah qnd Hamas? Why these double standards? You don't you try to be impartial rather than trying to push your bias views as fair and legitimate?

Your contradicting yourself again. Why would the Ruskies be supplying NATO and telling them to stay which you refer to as "lip service" while at the same time want the amreicasn to admit military defeat. The only ones that would be emboldened by the "military defeat" are the islamists, and that is who the Russians fear most along with the rising power of China.
The Ruskies can pull the plug on american presence in central asia any time they want. All they have to do is close the supply routes in the north and make an alliance with pakistan to do the same. That would force the amreicans out and have afghansitan as the buffer between the islamist and russia-- great game scenerio. America would be defeated, american hegemonic ambition in the region would be in check.
none of what you say makes sense. you have an irrational excuse for every angle.

Soldat is an idiot. If he was consistant or even articulate, he would be respected. People have lost respect for him not for his views but for his inconsistancy.

Different world, different times, apples and oranges again. USSR is not Russia and vice versa. The latter is surrounded by multiple festering istan states with strong men trying to keep a clamp down on restive populations. Proof of the greater threat to Russia coming from Islamists is based in recent history with Al Khattab having trained his Chechyan fighters in Afghanistan at one point. Many of the exact same criticisms you level at the Taliban can be leveled at the Chechans, which Soldat has and does do. So you are attempting to construct an alternate reality where a realized threat that has evidence basis is overlooked or trumped by a potential threat. A single article somewhere where a random Talib Joe says he gets arms from Russia is not incontrovertible proof by any stretch of the imagination.

This explanation is exactly why the Russians would help the Taliban, Think of a person worried about attacks from dobermans, Russia is the doberman, Taliban is the doberman, Russia throws a bone and the Taliban are diverted elsewhere. Now yeah Russia may not be the Soviet Union, but it was the center of it, and yes now Russia has to cooperate on the international scene i.e. the neighborhood block to be able to live in the neighborhood, but it still remembers one neighbor who was responsible for a great personal loss, So he sees a doberman, i.e. the Taliban and tosses the bone over into the U.S.'s yard and so the Taliban will bite it rather than him, he knows after the Taliban are done mauling the bad neighbor, it will just get put to sleep. There in is what would make Russia help the Taliban.

I am contradicting you, not myself, Russia needs to keep cred to have a hegemony. Actually Russians can't pull the plug on American presence anytime they want. This would end up in direct confrontation. They need proxies, the Taliban are their proxies of the month, as stated.

Everyone knows even if the Taliban won it would be a pyrhrric victory, they'd just end up massacring afghan civilians and then other militant groups and who knows? probably each other. The Taliban backlash isn't something they see as a real threat, Caucaus Islamists sure but not Taliban. Taliban can't even read, the Chechens can

"...conducted by rail and air using an airfield in the city of Ulyanovsk in Central Russia."

This caught my attention in the Lavrov announcement in the article
                              some posts back.

I can hardly write the name of that dreadful town : it was formerly
Samara [sounds like the Iraqi city but pronounced differently as I remember],
                              a beautiful city.
Then Comrade Lenin happened to be from there,
so the city, like many in the Soviet Union, was renamed.

I thought BY NOW they would have changed it back.
Obvious example would be St Petersburg replacing the odious
sounding leningrad. Even the residents hated that name and
many privately thought of it as "Peter" or "Peterburg".

Your anology is wrong. ITs AQ who threw a bone into the TAlibans yard and the US is using its energy trying to maul a bone that has very little meat on it. They are spending more energy than actually getting in return.
This emoldens other neighbors into realizing that Amreica is not so smart and playing out the paper tiger theory would make those neighbors rebel also which would threaten Russia since it is the neighbor that is the most influential. It would cause it to lose influence which is what russia fears.
