  • Hamas Abandons Assad, Backs Syrian Rebels

As if there weren’t already enough factions jockeying for position as the backers of the Syrian revolution, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh staked out his own claim today, effectively cutting the Hamas movement’s longtime ties with the Assad regime.

“I salute the heroic people of Syria who are striving for freedom, democracy and reform,” Haniyeh said, during a speech before thousands of worshipers in Cairo. People in the crowd at the Sunni mosque chanted “no Hezbollah and no Iran, the Syrian revolution is an Arab revolution.”

The move was not a complete surprise, as Hamas has been trying to realign itself, away from its traditional backing of Iran and into the milieu of Sunni nationalist movements that have flourished in the Arab Spring. It is a more natural fit for Hamas, and one that could confer renewed legitimacy on the movement across the Middle East.

The shift further complicates matters in Syria, however, particularly as it relates to US and European efforts to send UN ground troops into Syria to intervene in the ongoing civil war.

Those nations have already shrugged off al-Qaeda’s backing of the rebels, and the influx of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) fighters into the nation. The insinuation of Hamas into the rebellion, however, could be more politically difficult for the US, as it will presumably force a re-examination of how an internationally imposed regime change would impact Israel.

This is typical of these Arabs to betray others for their political gains. Look at how they betrayed Assad, after so many years defending Palestinians, supporting them and giving them refugee into Syria, now I dont blame Israel at all, not at all, these Palestinians are very ungrateful people, look at Hamas supporting Al Qaida in Syria.....Look at how Hamas betrayed Russia and Iran, Israel warned Russia of the twisted double standards terrorist Hamas and now they were right all along.

Palestinian cause is a ARAB CAUSE so stop supporting it.

I think it has more to do with Assad murdering his own people; than political gains. It would be hypocritical of HAMAS talked about being free from Israel yet supports Assad for doing things even the Israelis haven't done. Hopefully Iran follows suit, unlikely but who knows

          good move by hamas.

now I dont blame Israel at all,
u never blamed israel....at all. u are a cultural kike rather than a religious one.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

though, for some reason he is supporting assad. must be because of association with russia, but he then must support links to iran as well. his mind is basically a blender with **** spinning around.

if he is on the topic of betrayal, i wonder what he thinks of his mother russia backing out of the s-300 deal with iran.

Al- KHara, please silence yourself you deceitful donkey; you hop on prompting Arabs as if they have some special privilege in Islam, and worst yet , you're not even a Banu Hashim or Arab as you claim but a typical Must3arab "wannabe" tht festered in Iraq.

The Palestinian cause is a Muslim cause, but you who always highlight whether someone is Arab or not are not concerned about what's Muslim; you're a a slave of the Wahhabi doctrine.

I think that would be a legit thread which Soldout would avoid or in the very least join but make a post trying to draw attention away from the topic as he usually does.

what are you saying? You don't make sense. My dad's from Afghanistan my mom is Yemeni; what's so hard for you to grasp. The Most Pure Banu Hashim are in Iraq? Really do you have genetic tests as proof? You're about as Hashemiyah as the Jordanian royals, which is not much at all.

You clearly don't know Arabic or you would have understood my statement; you're a fraud. Probably some Pakistani

And what do you care what he supports? Afghanistan is a Pashtun issue; you have no say. Get out

hhahaha sure , nice excuse you could respond back in Arabic too you know.

you didn't respond back because you didn't understand. I'm smelling a rat you're not actually who you claim to be; you pose as Hussaini to pretend you have legitimacy. when it wouldnt give you any credibility anyways because content not prestige is what denotes merit.
