Afghan driver shot dead by Pakistani police

by Qaisar YosufzaionJan 27, 2012 - 16:31 PESHAWAR (PAN): An Afghan driver was shot dead by Pakistani police in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday when he failed to pay 20 rupees (less than 10afs) in bribe, a transport union official said.
A policeman killed Tawab Gul, an Afghan refugee, in the Pishtakhara locality of Peshawar, said Ayaz Khan, a member of the city transport union. The victim lived in Nothia area, he added.
The policeman asked for Rs100 in bribe, but the driver offered him Rs80, something that annoyed the policeman, who pumped five bullets into the driver.
“Gul was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” said Sirajuddin, a witness. The transport union and the victim’s relatives blocked the ring road for a while as a mark of protest.
The driver had abused the policeman, claimed Muhammad Saeed, an official tasked with investigating the murder. The killer is under interrogation, Saeed added.

Do not curse...because cursing is not the way the prophet (pbuh) and his companions did.

The criminals shall not escape the punishment of Allah, say may the wrath of Allah be upon those who are Az Zalimun (injustice).

for 20 rupees.. it's ironic how first it makes you wonder why didn't he just give him 20 rupees and then realize that those 20 rupees cost him his life and that is what the value of those 20 rupees were. this is sad.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

I agree that bribes are wrong....but how did Pakistan become a country of bribes...is it just greed, or is it also that too many rights are abused and injustice high. If someone feels they are being paid justly for the work they do, then most good people would never try to get a bribe.

This story here though is so sad, I will remember the family in my prayers. It rips ones heart apart to lose a family member.

It is from Allah (the most high),maybe Allah wanted to give him the statue of martyrdom, maybe Allah wanted to rise him in his statue...and Allah knows best.

Verily it is from the most high a test for the people.

Allah says in Quran :Al Baqarah (2,216)

Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.

Aside from being emotive and sounding potentially divisive, that's not the solution. There's a lot of flow of people between Pakistan and Afghanistan - who is 'Afghan' and who is 'Pakistani' is not always as simple as that. Many Afghans are assimilated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly if they've been born and raised there and there are 'Pakistanis' working in Kabul, trading in Jalalabad and driving trucks between various points.

The way (some) Peshawaris have treated Afghans is the story of human mistreatment world over. Killing someone over 20 rupees is inhumane, pathetic and desperate. The region isn't alone in being describe as that, but right now we kind of wear that notorious badge.

Days will pass, it will...all calm...down.

                              Another buried page...in history.
