Afghans stage anti-US rally in Kunar
Hundreds of Afghan people have waged a protest rally in northeastern Kunar province, condemning US-led nighttime attacks that have killed many civilians in Afghanistan, Press TV reports.
Shouting anti-American slogans, protesters in the northeastern city of Kunar on Thursday also called for an end to such deadly US assaults that have sparked extreme anger among the Afghan population, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Afghan lawmakers in the Afghan capital of Kabul expressed outrage as well over a US raid that left five civilians, including a woman and a child, dead in Chawkay district of Kunar province.
Sayed Fazelullah Wahidi, the governor of Kunar province, said the raid occurred Monday night when US helicopters fired projectiles into a compound.
The nighttime raid is said to have been part of the US “kill-and-capture” operations in Afghanistan.
NATO has confirmed the operation, claiming that it is investigating reports of civilian casualties.
Authorities, including President Hamid Karzai, have repeatedly slammed foreign forces' night raids, saying they lead to civilian loss of life on most occasions.
