US forces kill pregnant Afghan woman
    Sat Dec 17, 2011 1:13PM GMT

File photo shows Afghan police stand near the body of an Afghan woman.
US forces have killed a pregnant Afghan woman and injured four other women in a house raid in Afghanistan's southeastern Paktia Province, Press TV reports.

Ruhollah Samon, a Paktia provincial government spokesman, condemned the attack, a Press TV correspondent reported on Saturday.

The director of the counter-narcotics department of Paktia Province, Hasibullah Ahmadzai, and his two sons were also detained during the raid, he added.

Afghan officials say they are currently investigating the incident.

Civilian casualties caused by US-led foreign forces have triggered deep anger among Afghans, prompting violent demonstrations throughout the country.

The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of eradicating the Taliban militants, leaving countless civilians dead or injured.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of nearly 150,000 US-led foreign forces.

NATO troops raid Afghan official's house, 1 woman dead

    Dec 17, 2011, 10:12 GMT

Kabul - NATO-led forces raided a house of a counternarcotics official in south-eastern Afghanistan, detaining the director and killing a woman, a statement said Saturday.
Coalition force raided the house of a Dr Hafizullah (no first name provided), director of the counternarcotics department of Paktia province Saturday morning, detaining him along with his two sons, a statement of the provincial governor office said.
The house was raided by NATO-led forces in Gardiz, the provincial capital of Paktia, at 1 am (2030 GMT Friday), it said. 'Hafizullah, along his two sons, have arrested by the combined forces.'
The statement also said that a female member of the family was killed, while three other family members were wounded in the raid, conducted in Bala Da area of the city.
Coalition forces' night raids have been a sensitive issue between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and his Western backers. The Afghan government claims that night raids cause civilians causalities, but NATO says they are one of the most effective ways of targeting Taliban-led insurgents.
A NATO military spokesman said that Afghan and coalition security forces had arrested a leader of the Haqqani network during an operation. 'The incident is being investigated right now.'

This is absolutely horrible. How they can do that I don't know. This is something that can make me very angry. They have done enough of harm, destruction, division and hate in the Muslim world. How long will they continue? When will people realize that they are using us as tools for their plans? We cannot sit still anymore. May Almighty Allah help us and may the women's family get Allah's eternal blessings.

Truly tragic. because this has happened over and over again in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
