1,001 US troops killed in Afghanistan

With two more US soldiers killed in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the death toll of American soldiers, from day one, has surpassed the 1,000 mark.

The two soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive devise went off bringing the total to nine Americans in just two days, and the total deaths in 104 months to 1,001, according to CNN calculations.

Afghanistan is getting deadlier by the day, CNN said. From 2001 through 2006, the American casualty rate never reached 100 in any single year. But that number started going up in 2007 and spiked to more than 300 last year. If the current rate continues, 2010 will be the deadliest year of the war, nearly a decade after it started.

Monday was the single deadliest day for US-led forces in Afghanistan this year. Militants killed 12 US-led soldiers, seven of them Americans, in six separate attacks in southern and eastern Afghanistan.

The fatalities were the second highest for US troops in a single day since last October 26, when 11 Americans were killed in two helicopter crashes.

I do not believe these figures. When taliban kill 30 or 40 soldiers, they report it 3 or 4.

American soldiers are brave only in hollywood movies, in real they sucks.

It is extremely sad when life is taken. A soldier follows orders. A talib is also following orders. Soldiers are just puppets. Taliban are puppets. The sad reality for both is that the puppet-master is the one and the same.

A soldier is a soldier, he fights only for his country and anyone who fights for that deserves respect..To them they are fighting miles away from their homes, having left everything behind for their country.. Although they are opressors and are by no means fighting for the right cause but that wasnt their choice to make..they didnt get to choose what war they would like to participate in..these were the policies and choices of those devils sitting up in washington, these soldiers are merely the tools.

Prophet forgave his biggest enemy, he showed mercy to the most twisted of men..yet here we use islam as an excuse to mock those who are already dead and we do so living in the same red-neck countries...And here is a neat little reminder, YOU lot PAY for these soldiers to go there, YOUR tax money buys them guns, YOU take mortgages whose interest is what keeps this war going...yet you never question that or feel bad about it ?

I am not talking about the numbers. My post was in reply to a statement by Smarty. It wreaked of irony, so I decided to call him out on it. BTW governments tend to lie about their numbers, so if they are actually more dead, I wouldn't be surprised.
