Kabul Former leaders of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan Friday launched a new political alliance ‘The National Front of Afghanistan’.
The new alliance also accommodates leaders of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan including Ahmad Zia Massoud, Gen. Abdur Rashid Dostum, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, Amrullah Saleh and others. . A spokesman through an e-mail said the coalition front would especially focus on stability in Afghanistan after withdrawal of the foreign forces.
He claimed that the alliance would work after impending withdrawal of the International Coalition Forces for peace. The painful process of transition, a beleaguered reconciliation process, the ongoing internecine conflict between the three main pillars of state , the forthcoming holding of a patently unconstitutional "traditional" Loya Jirga, to mention just a few, are all part of a series of infinite and seemingly never-ending problems that are affecting the country, its social fabric and the body politic, the spokesman added.
The Afghanistan’s administration and political forces want stability in the country but at the same time worry about the uncertain future.
It is pertinent to mention that all the regional countries, which borders Afghanistan are also holding talks with Kabul and Afghan leaders to sort out a strategy for meeting the future challenges

It is best that you not allow personal objections to warlords (which is understandable) to cloud your frame of mind in seeing and understanding the current dynamics.

What has been overlooked here, and what I find singularly important is that this alliance speaks about reconciliation. This key word has been missing from these peoples vocabulary for a long time. An educated guess would say that either Russia or Iran have pressured this group to take this tone.

What does this mean for Afghanistan? Reconciliation between the original fighting factions is good news for the region and the future of Afghanistan. For these people to sit at the same table and talk will be a monumental achievement.

In present circumstances, it is best to leave judgement of a situation until you have seen all the facts. These people talking about reconciliation is a major development, and that is why this article is newsworthy.

Maybe these people have realized that their era is at its end, and that their ways were part of the problem in the first place.

this alliance doesn't talk about reconciliation, they are the most vocal group of people who are opposed to talking to the taliban. these are the same clowns who have been together since the mid 90s. This is the northern alliance with a fresh coat of paint.
