A woman from Russia’s Siberian Krasnoyarsk Region, who is on trial for burning her infant daughter in a stove, is now facing charges for beating her small son, regional prosecutors said on Wednesday.
On April 11, Yelena Serysheva, 34, was arguing with her husband and mother-in-law. The two left home, leaving Serysheva alone with her eight-month-old daughter and two-year-old son. The girl started crying and the woman, whom psychiatrists later said was sane and fit to undergo trial, threw her into the burning stove. The infant died in the fire and the woman went to bed.
A criminal case against Serysheva was opened in late October and prosecutors demanded 18 years in a maximum security facility for the woman.
But new details of the bloodcurdling crime have recently been revealed. According to Yelena Pimonenko, a senior assistant for Krasnoyarsk Region’s Prosecutor General, before throwing her daughter into the fire, Serysheva severely beat her son. Eyewitnesses said she even tried to choke the boy to death in an effort to stop him from crying.
“We have filed these new charges against Serysheva in court. We also filed a claim to deprive Serysheva of her parental rights over her son and 16-year-old daughter, who has been living with her mother's parents since she was born,” Pimonova said.
Two officials from the local structure for the prevention of such crimes were fired over the case, Pimonova added.
