Sindh chief minister announces Rs 100 million for Mohenjodaro renovation

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday announced Rs 100 million for development and rehabilitation of Moen-jo-Daro, one of the largest settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and stressed on the proper preservation of historical site by mobilising all resources."I would have announced more funds had the devastating floods not lashed the province that displaced nearly eight million people creating emergency situation," said CM while presiding over the National Conference on Moen-jo-Daro held at a local hotel.

The event was organised by the Culture Department in collaboration with United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).Chief Minister emphasised that all archaeological sites in the province should be maintained by all means and federal government's assistance was required for the purpose by all odds.

He said all such historical sites were not properly looked after prior to the development to province before the passage of 18th constitutional amendment. He recalled that tourists used to visit Moen-jo-Daro as provincial government had also provided all facilities to them in the past.

Such a status, he said, could also be revived after proper projection of the historical site.

He hailed the culture department for organising national moot on such an important issue and praised culture minister for taking keen interest in the subject.Sindh Minister for Culture Sassui Palejo, in her opening remarks, recalled the significance of Moen-jo-Daro and spoke about the history of Indus Valley Civilisation.

She praised the incumbent government for the passage of amendment from the Lower House - National Assembly - that paved the way of development of several important subjects to the provinces.Sassui said it was after 64 years that some cultural subjects were devolved to Sindh, including 126 archaeological sites.

She said meetings were afoot to assess damages caused on all archaeological sites of the province and planning underway for renovation of all identified sites. She said several schemes of culture department worth eight to nine million rupees were currently underway including revival of theatres and art galleries in many districts of the province.

Sassui said that an international conference on a similar scale would also be organised to create awareness of precious ancient sites in the province and fund-raising for their maintenance and renovation.

She thanked Chief Minister for announcing Rs 100 million in the worst circumstances facing Sindh due to ravaging floods.

Nobody knows much about this civilization, but out if this ruins peopel know now that almost every hous had canals for water. They were pretty smart if you think that 5000 years ago they had this, and they are actually the first civilization that had canalization.

You see vrora, I love this kind of topics, our ancestors were smart people and very culturally rich too, but why can we not return to those days and bring back our glory as a progressive thinking society that produce such impressive achievement. Our People are only known for bad things, so its our duty to bring our past glories to the present.

its true, we dont know much about them because we can't read their language, their language is also very complicated.

These are the indus seals, you can see their language and different pictures on these seals, nobody can understand what they mean, but one thing you will notice is the Swastika symbol on the top right, indus civilization was also one of first to use that symbol

Indus valley covered 3 countries, pakistan, eastern afghanistan, western India

                    this is the map:

^ i am not sure of pashtun history, but i am pretty sure some of the ancestors of pashtuns could be related to indus valley folks, especially since there have been settlements found in the pashtuns areas too. infact some people say that the first indus city is Mehrgarh, which is 9000 years old and it is located in Baluchistan, not far from pashtun areas

I don´t think they are our ancestors. Maybe maternal ancestors because Aryans conquered their lands, killed many of them and drove them out of large regions. The Harappa civilisation had it´s sub-civilisation in all south-east Asia, even in Kandahar (Spin Boldak). I think Indians and Sindis are the closest people to them.
