  • China Wants Bases in FATA, Tribal Areas

Haha, this is rich - China is looking to set up military bases in FATA/tribal areas of Pakistan:

Pakistan would be suicidal to allow this. Look at what's happened to Pakistan relations with US/West, by allowing US/NATO troops even near those areas, above Durand Line. Can you imagine what the hell would happen to Pak-China relations if China has bases over there? Even drone bases for China would cause civil war in Pakistan, let alone Chinese PLA bases. Because you know when Chinese hit someone - they hit like a sledgehammer. And then when Pashtuns hit back - then it will be like 100 sledgehammers. Pakjabi generals will die from nervous breakdown - their hearts won't be able to take the stress.

I don't want to see terrified Kayani stammering a warning to the Chinese:
    "Y-y-you m-m-must s-s-stop! W-w-we are n-n-nuclearr p-p-power! (Gulp)"

The end of Pakistan will come in a big spectacular way.

This would be great. We will get rid of coward Americans because we know they can't even talk to Chinese. They are super afraid of Chinese.

On the contrary, Americans would see Chinese bases and demand same rights. After all, USA gives much more money to Pak than China does.

Soon there would be double-drone action all over Pakistan.

America can't survive in the presence of china. America will melt down with the Chinese temperature. Chinese are very strict and straight forward. They have taught lesson to Americans so many times before... They talk less and act more. wakh wakh

Exactly, in FATA and tribal areas, the Chinese will talk less and act more. Unlike Americans, who only threaten to do raids in FATA, the Chinese will actually do it. Bye-bye to Durand Line. They'll be attacked from all sides, and then they will be going everywhere too.

i dont think that will happen at all. China has very positive views even in pakistani public, even if they establish the bases, i dont think the general pakistani population would mind

When Chinese drone strikes start blowing up houses, when Chinese PLA raiding parties start attacking villages, then see how their image holds up in public opinion. Uighurs even have ties with Haqqanis. If you think they'll stay quiet and restrained even against China, then you're dreaming.

When Chinese attack militants hiding in a village, they destroy the entire village. They're not like Americans, who go searching from house to house. They'll destroy everything, using maximum force. Then you know what will happen in return.

Chinese have good image only east of Indus---they are hated with a patience in Baluchistan specially and in Pukhtunkhwa in particular---But let them come and that will provide to other powers to interfere and arm Baluch dissidents more ---and also people of FATA.

But Sanman, this story has been floated by a Pakistani journalist who usually have connection to military and spread such stories on its behest.

Toramana, it could be - but lots of others are picking up on this story.

As you say, perhaps Pak Army is trying to float rumors in order to deter US from attacking across the Durand Line into FATA, etc.

But US is not so easily suckered - they would see through such rumors and remain unaffected.

Either way, it only shows the desperate situation that Pakistan is in.

Let's remember that when Musharraf raided Lal Masjid on behalf of Pakistan, public outcry did not stay silent just because daddy China's concerns were involved.

Sanman, I think this should be China...Personally, I think China would not like to get involved in FATA. It has more vital concerns in South China Sea to focus on.
(with all the gas & oil besides the belligrant competitors)---Taiwan, Tibet, etc...and the broader Central Asia---This sounds to me a pure rumour spread by the Punjabi dominated army ----

I read that Chinese companies had purchased some mines in Afghanistan, but then they abandoned them due to security concerns. So you're right, I don't think they'd want to get into a sticky situation.

Asia times .. Zee news blah you guys would be better off wasting time writing these same stories yourself

What could china possibly gain from such a move, contrary to the world china is right now focused on Taiwan and Vietnam ..Afghanistan is a lucrative energy source for China and Chinese diplomats have been frequently accommodated and acquainted with various tribal elders throughout the FATA region to ensure a safe corridor for their fuel supplies

This is the entire extent of china's ambitions and interests in this region
for now..Pakistan has contracted Chinese companies for all of its hydel and infrastructure projects in these areas so you will frequently hear stuff from some
rag tag journalist about china's imaginary military base here
It's enough that I know, Our time had a home, In your heart..Was a place..But the glass always breaks..

I agree with the majority of your posts on here but I believe you are very wrong on this. China is an imperial power on the level of the USA/NATO alliance and Russia. Major outside powers like this can bring nothing good to us from what I can see. And besides this, I fear what someone else said that China being able to do this would only invite other major powers in to demand the same right as the Chinese have acquired. Not good.
