Technically, it would allow you to take a train from New York to London, or vice-versa.
If that were ever built, I would take a ride, just for the experience. Rail travel is a lot cheaper than most other kinds of excursions.
The Russians estimate that it would pay for itself in about 10-15 years, just due to all the freight commerce.
Sure, if the Chunnel could be built, then why not this? And technically, since it stops at Diomeda island in between, it's really just 2 Chunnels end-to-end. The construction of additional railway track would also be a major undertaking.
