  • Obama: Pakistan feels threatened by a stable Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (PAN): US President Barack Obama has alleged that Pakistan, feeling threatened by a stable and democratic Afghanistan, is hedging its bets in having interactions with "unsavory characters" who it thinks might end up regaining power in Kabul.*** ******
"They (Pakistan) see their security interests threatened by an independent Afghanistan, in part because they think it will ally itself to India, and Pakistan still considers India their mortal enemy," Obama told a news conference on Thursday.
Pakistan had been more ambivalent about some of US goals in Afghanistan, he said, explaining that one main American objective was being able to transition out of Afghanistan and leave a stable government behind.
"I think that they have hedged their bets in terms of what Afghanistan would look like, and part of hedging their bets is having interactions with some of the unsavory characters who they think might end up regaining power in Afghanistan after coalition forces have left," he added.
His administration had tried to persuade Pakistan it was in their interest to have a stable Afghanistan, and not to feel threatened by an independent neighbour.
"We've tried to get the conversations between Afghans and Pakistanis going more effectively than they have been in the past. But we've still got more work to do," he said. "There is no doubt that there are some connections that the Pakistani military and intelligence services have with certain individuals that we find trouble."
He said the US wanted to get Pakistan to realise that a peaceful approach towards India would be in everybody's interests and would help it develop -- because one of the biggest problems in that country was poverty, illiteracy and lack of development.
"In that environment you've seen extremism grow. You've seen militancy grow that doesn't just threaten our efforts in Afghanistan but also threatens the Pakistani government and people as well. So trying to get that reorientation is something that we're continuing to work on," Obama said.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

^Obama knows this; Hilary Clinton knows this. Every reasonable commentator within the US and across the world has known this for a long time, so why on Earth has the US tacitly continued to support Pakistan? I don't actually understand the US foreign policy logic in this instance, I'm afraid. Something is opaque.

      1. US dunt want to create another hostile state, full of extremist by attacking PAK.
2.Taliban supported by Pak. So US just want taliban to be anti Pakistani so ISAF dunt hv to fight with Talib.
3.Pak army & Politicians are corrupt to the gutter..they take the money and fight in tribal areas {WOT}..& they do the dirty work for US.
      4.Pak is nuclear armed state so any attack on Pak, will put South asia at risk of nulear war{india/china}

if pakistan contacts haqqani -> it is read as Pakistan supporting Terrorists to destabilize Afghanistan

Pakistan does not want to see a stable Afghanistan who can make its own decisions.

Pakistan has shown itself as a terrorist haven, including its foreign policy too.

One can recall the Mumbai massacre, and how all links were directed to Pakistan. India even provided the evidence to both the UN and Pakistan, Pakistan as usual, refused to act.

The same man who is the leader of Lashkar e tayba was released and is currently protected by ISI as a strategic asset.

Pakistan is an obstacle towards the progression of the region.

Pakistan is fearful of a strong Afghanistan, and will do anything to break Afghanistan up.

People need to realise this, Pakistan is a ever lasting enemy for Afghanistan, there is no such thing as a Brotherly Pakistan and we saw this in Bengladesh too, how Pakistan reacted and mass murder many innocent people.

Pakistan confuses the identity of Pashtuns with its national Taliban agenda.

The concept as i understand is this Tor Khan

Pakistanis Know that No one has deeper pockets than the Americans

Americans Know that paying off the Pakistanis is lesser of the two evils

therefore, the foreign policy of both countries is to exist at a very difficult impasse, where its just a matter of who blinks first..Pakistanis are hedging their bets in Afghanistan against the very possible next Economic Depression and since our economy is already in the gutter its not really gonna effect us that much...US policy so far seems to be that lets just ride the wave for as long as we can and see if Pakistanis will fold at the risk of getting bombed.

The only thing is Pakistan may yet find Allies in China, Iran & the Saudis..US on the other hand is fast alienating itself from the theatre altogether

But then there are things like this that totally befuddle my understanding of US policies towards Pakistan..on one hand the president of the country implicates Pakistan for providing support to terrorist on the other hand they approve a $50 Million order of AIDEWS Pods which are used to provide protection by detecting incoming radar-guided surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles ?
