Hey Bengal_Tiger, I've heard that Bangladesh was a drowning country and that it will disappear in the future. I hope this is not true, those landscapes and this biodiversity are wonderful. I hope i'll be able to visit Bangladesh one day, while making a tour in Asia I also want to visit Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Malaysia, Indonesia.

The whole environmental movement and "global warming" issue has been suspected of being used for an ulterior agenda by the west. A lot of their claims have been exaggerated.

According to many of these claims, large parts of Bangladesh should have disappeared by now.

Bangladesh is actually expanding size wise (probably the only country on earth to do so), because each year the residue from the earth impacted by flooding spreads to create more land. It is only 17% of Bangladesh, which according to some theories, will disappear in half a century.

                1. The 17% is debatable and so is the 50%, Bangladesh was speaking of investing $5-7 billion on an airport, we have enough money to fund engineering projects to solve the flooding issue the way Holland has.

                2. We have half a century, if these claims are even true (which I doubt they are).

I think this is totally feasible. There was a time when Netherlands was indeed in a situation, much worse than Bangladesh. Believe it nor, Netherlands has lower elevation than Bangladesh. It is more of a flat delta than Bangladesh since the European giant River Rhine and many other river goes through Netherlands. Through engineering the dutch tamed the forces of nature.

                ...

Bangladesh's landmass has increased in recent years, thanks to sedimentation in its southern rivers, a study has revealed.

The study shows that the country has actually grown in landmass equal to five times the size of Dhaka city. The new land has emerged in the Meghna estuary.
                http://www.sify.com/news/bangladesh-...xnOcebbga.html

Dhaka is a metropolis of 15 million, five Dhakas = 75 million people.

So don't worry Bangladesh is fine. Flood safety measures have got better year by year, decade by decade. We have the potential to reclaim land, and possibly even double our land size. Worst case scenario is that in 40 years time we will lose 17% of our land, whilst 83% - the area where people actually live - remains. In reality we will probably get bigger.

REGULARLY received satellite imageries and other tangible supporting evidences suggest that Bangladesh is about to receive the gift of a huge land mass from its adjoining sea. The size of this land mass, eventually, could be as big as the present size of Bangladesh or even bigger. But it will depend considerably on what the Bangladeshis themselves do -- like the people of Holland did -- to reclaim land from the sea to be joined to the mainland.

Unfortunately, non inclusion of such a project in the country's annual development programmes (ADPs) means that the government is paying no attention to the issue. No allocations have been made over the years to build dams or other structures needed to accelerate the process of accretion of coastal land. This attitude, undoubtedly, reflects a serious neglect of the vital national interest. Successive governments should have done all in their powers to accelerate the land reclamation process which holds out so much promise for this land hungry country. They should have been proactive in mobilising foreign assistance to realise the objective.

Already, a substantial land mass has surfaced off the shore of Bangladesh on some of these completely surfaced land masses human habitations are growing while others emerge during the ebbing of the tide and go under water during the tides.
                2008 report

                http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=573878

Bangladesh has reclaimed land before, and can do it again. Once our economic growth hits 10% a year, (2000s average growth rate of 5%, current just under 7%, targeted growth 10% and remember we are between the two biggest countries in the world, India and China, two huge and rapidly growing economies) and once our quality of governance improves then we can reclaim more and more land, and possibly as the 2008 report above stated double our land size.

Bangladesh plans to build a series of dams to reclaim 600 square kilometres (230 square miles) of land from the sea over the next five years, officials said Sunday....Bangladesh reclaimed 1,000 square kilometres of new land in the Meghna estuary by building two dams in 1957 and 1964.

Remember we are a country that in 1971 had nothing. We had to pay off all the debts of the pre-1971 united Pakistan, but recieved none of the assets. We had nothing, literally nothing in our national budget. From 0 we are now a NEXT 11 country, and even have the potential to become a trillion dollar economy in 10 years.

We are the third biggest Muslim nation on earth, but condensed. In Islam, size and plentitude matter. The 180 million of Pakistan are spread through out a big land space, the 200 million + of Indonesia are spread from an archipelago wider than Europe, we are 150 million concentrated in one small land. For example there is more blessings in praying with a congregation of 1,000 than 100. We have 150 million Muslims praying, remembering the name of Allah with malaa'ikah gathering to see the name of Allah being mentioned. So there are more Muslims in Bengal than in the whole of the entire Arabian peninsula from Saudi Arabia to Yemen and Oman. We have the biggest gathering of Muslims on earth every year besides Hajj, 5 million Muslims in Dhaka. Islam in Bengal is older than Turkey, Pakistan, Morocco, Algeria, Indonesia, Malaysia because this is where the great Sahabi, Saad bin Abi Waqqas (radi'Allahu anhu) set foot uponm before Muhammad bin Qasim set foot in Sindh, Pakistan or Idris I (Moulay Idris) went to Morocco.

You sound really optimistic. I really wish you become a regional economic power. But I think that the global economy is doomed. Especially for muslims. You have the chance to be next to China and India but I think that muslims are "punished" by Allah SWT because of their behaviour. Riba is so widespread in the muslim world. Even the so called Riba-free banks are just marketing propaganda, they are part of a bigger system based on kufr legislations and rules. All jew-run banks and the whole global financial system is based on usury. The jews gave the Nobel price to Muhammad Yunus because micro-credit is nothing less than usury and Islam is against usury. This is all part of the Dajjal System. The same reason why the jews gave the Nobel Price to Abdul Salam. Because he is from the Ahmaddiya sect. They want to divide and aweaken the muslims, by all means, even by promoting the munafiqs deeds. We muslims need to unite, we need a common currency and we absolutely need to get rid of Riba. We need to do jihad in our own countries and get rid of the corrupted rulers, as the Afghans are currently doing or the Arab mujhaideens during the "Arab Spring". Those are the first steps before starting anything else because Allah SWT does not change the condition of a people before they change themselves. Have you ever seen the lectures of Sheikh Imran Hossein ?

Your country banned Hizb ul Tahrir party. I've also heard of Islamists being persecuted by your government. The situation in muslims countries is abolutely catastrophic, especially in my mother country. We need the khilafah back.

That's right. Bangladesh is underrated in the minds of muslims. Because you are not at War so the media don't care about you and because muslims are more focused on Pakistan which has nuclear weapons. But you guys are a part of the ummah and you belong to our family. May Allah SWT increase our imaan and send blessing on all the muslims. Ameen.

Those pictures... it's like they are coming from another planet. I'm not used to see so much vegetation and so much rain in one place. My country is just rocks and desert compared to this. One of the biggest problems in Africa is the lack of food, it undermines the economic growth. But your country does not have this problem so it should be easy to start an economy based on industry.
