  • India slams Western intervention

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday slammed Western countries for using force to change regimes in West Asia and North African countries, and called for adherence to the UN principles on respecting independence and sovereignty of all nation states, local media reported Sunday.

Local newspaper The Times of India Sunday quoted Singh as saying at the UN General Assembly session in New York that that societies cannot be re-ordered by outsiders through military force and absence of democracy and rule of law cannot be a pretext to violate sovereignty and integrity of countries.

"The observance of the rule of law is as important in international affairs as it is within countries. Societies cannot be re-ordered from outside through military force. People in all countries have the right to choose their own destiny and decide their own future," he said. "The idea that prescriptions have to be imposed from outside is fraught with danger."

The Indian prime minister was clearly referring to the recent war in Libya and unrest in Syria and Yemen.

Local observers said the criticism by India of Western intervention in West Asia and North Africa is a clear warning against Western countries' intention to use force to impose democracy in other countries and it also underlined a growing disconnect between India and the United States.

"Actions taken under the authority of the United Nations must respect the unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of individual states," said Singh. "We will succeed if our efforts have legitimacy and are pursued not just within the framework of law but also the spirit of law."

This remark echoed the feeling in India that Western powers went beyond the mandate they secured from the Security Council by using force in Libya, said a local analyst.

The Indian PM also repeated India's strong support to Palestine's demand for full membership of the United Nations as a state.

"India is steadfast in its support for the Palestinian people's struggle for a sovereign, independent, viable and united state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, living within secure and recognizable borders side by side and at peace with Israel. We look forward to welcoming Palestine as an equal member of the United Nations," he said in his address to the UN.

    1. India is a growing global power and traditional member of the non-Aligned movement.

Historically it has been a key exponent of "3rd world independence" and opponent of western imperialism. This included Congress' belief in state socialism connected to the idea of self-sufficiency for African/Asian states.

    2. It is strong in Africa and has probably more influence than US poodle the UK, including hosting major conferences of African states and leaders in New Delhi, giving $5 billion to African states recently, an Indian naval presence east of the continent in the Indian Ocean, and expanding its renting of African land.

    3. This call by India is good in that 1 billion Indians reject western imperialism, the fact that India is a growing economic giant and buying companies in Britain, Ukraine and elsewhere strengthens this call.

Western powers have massacred, raped, looted, colonized for too long.

I am no fan of New Delhi civil servants & politicians and their unfair policies with Bangladesh, which however are getting better, but this is a move I welcome.

Which India are we speaking of, this global power nonsense, is just mere rumours. Why doesnt the Pro Indian lobby on this forum, disclose to all of us, the amount of aid given to India from this Evil,Raping,Lootmal Western countries or do such actions make one look disgraced?

"Collectively, the Western nations have donated a substantial amount of aid to India. In 1980 this aid totaled nearly US$1.5 billion and reached US$2.5 billion in 1990. In 1992 Western aid reached a new height: US$3.9 billion, which represented 49.8 percent of all Western multilateral and bilateral aid given to South Asian nations that year"

An old article I may say, but very important in establishing a fact.

Once Pakistan, is vanished from the map, Pashtuns should not be deceived by this friendship of convience. Pakistan Punjab/Karachi will join India and adjust, Afghanistan and the Pashtun people will face another worser and bigger obstacle, a Indic-Paki-Dia!

There was a time, whereby our forefathers, pre-islamically too, placed a caste system whereby the ancient ones, would not associate nor marry these sea gyspie asiatic jugglers as hitler would refer to them as.

        Just my view.

I agree to some extent but its also the fault of the Indians, who told them to wave palm tree leafs over British officers.

            They are genetically slave minded.

India's interests within Afghanistan, is no different than Pakistan.

Afghanistan is being used by both nations, as a tennis ground with interests taking the form of a ball and bat.

except when it comes to afghanistan lol
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

If the West didnt intervene, your kin would be in line to blow themselves up in Kashmir some where, I personally think, without the emotions and cry baby talk, the American intervention was a blessing.

You read about how Pakistan airlifted 1000s of ISI operatives in Kunduz before the American's attacked?

Now imgine, if the Northern Alliance were defeated, Afghanistan would have became another province of Pakistan, and a unlimited number of applicants to become chokindars, gate keepers for Punjabis.

Its logical, America came, and interupted Pakistan's nasty games.

Funny thing is, America came expecting a good organised society with some form of decency, but instead, they landed on warlord turf, and look at the mess they are in.

To be honest, they should have just invaded Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, who cares about a global Muslim revolt, just pay the Sunnis to fight the Shias, that would keep them busy(American tactic).

where is it said that 1000s of isi were airlifted from kunduz? that is not what i read or heard on a video. supposedly some were taliban and possibly alqaeda, according to indian reports. the indians claimed the pakistanis dropped some of them off in kashmir and were very unimpressed.

ahh yes, the solution is more states interfering what is has essentially been a 30 year civil war. lol what is ur beef with the paki leadership? ur both secular and want to see afghans killed. they take a communist like u, a paki general, and an american official and put u side to side, ur ideology is the same. the only difference is ur odors.
