Giant 'Deadly' Croc Denied Taste Of Freedom

A massive saltwater crocodile - believed to be the biggest ever captured alive - is set to be denied a chance at freedom.
Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) has called on the government of the Philippines to free the 21ft, one-ton creature named Lolong.
He was seized earlier this month having been suspected of eating a farmer in the southern township of Bunawan in July.

The reptile is also believed to have bitten off the head of a 12-year-old girl two years ago.
Peta campaigner Ashley Fruno said: "(The government) should do the compassionate thing and order this crocodile to be returned to his natural habitat, as taking him away to be locked up in an animal prison is just plain wrong."
But Filipino officials, who have admitted wanting to use Lolong as a tourist attraction, say he will be remain in captivity in order to protect the community.

Lolong was reported to have stopped eating for several days after his capture - a common symptom of crocodiles under stress - but can go without food for several months.
He had initially evaded hunters, despite them leaving bait including chicken, pork and dog meat.
But with the help of a large metal cable, 30 men eventually managed to subdue the beast.

Hunters said he was mostly unhurt, apart from the mark of a hook inside his jaw.
His stomach contents were examined but there was no trace of human remains or of several water buffaloes also reported missing by locals.

The crocodile easily dwarfs the biggest specimen listed in the Guinness World Records website - an 18ft male called Cassius living in an Australian nature park.
Other huge crocodiles have been recorded in press reports, including a 20ft-plus male killed in Papua New Guinea in 1982.

After killing a farmer and a 12 year old girl, the Filipinos have captured this killer and keeping him safe so he can't kill anyone else.

Ignore the western animal rights morons, as they are middle class idiots practising cultural imperialism and do not care about the safety or lives of ordinary Filipinos.

I read somewhere that their community opted to have it in a zoo rather than kill it.

I just dislike that completely biased article above maligning the local Filipinos and glamourizing the crocodile. Here is an alternative journalistic spin to it (by me).

Filipinos relieved with the capture of dangerous crocodile that killed 12 year old girl.

Villagers in the Philippines who had been terrified of attacks by a crocodile who had killed a farmer as well as a 12 year old girl have become relieved that the animal has finally been captured and now unable to kill any further.

The mother of the 12 year old girl said "I'm so happy today, nothing will bring back my daughter, but I don't want anyone else to day".

The widow of the farmer who was killed by the crocodile said "His death had a horrifying effect on our community and area. Farmers became scared of going out and became wary."

Local Filipino officials dismissed calls by western animal "rights" organizations for the crocodile to be released. One official said "these statements disgust me, are they (the animal rights groups) so insensitive to the suffering of the family of the 12 year old girl and want more people to die?". So it seems that Cassius, as the crocodile is called, will not be exterminated as for instance dangerous dogs who kill in the United Kingdom are but will instead be kept and fed in a local zoo.

Do you see the difference now? Be careful of what you read especially western journalists.

Even Stephen Spielberg can't give tigers and crocodile acting lessons to fake scenes just for the camera.

Anyway in around 1.40-2.15 mins of the first video it shows a tiger going in to grassy water, but still water, and killing a crocodile.
