Three US soldiers have been injured in an attack in west Afghanistan as foreign forces are experiencing an escalation in militant attacks in recent days, Press TV reports.
Local Afghan officials say the incident took place in the western Afghan province of Farah on Sunday
Naqibullah Farahi, a spokesman for the governor of Farah Province, said the injuries happened as a result of an accidental explosion at a government building while Afghan and foreign officials were holding a meeting there.
However, Taliban militants have claimed responsibility, saying at least six US-led soldiers were killed in the attack.
The developments come as a recent car bomb blast near a US-run military base in eastern Afghanistan has left at least 77 American soldiers wounded.
According to official figures released by the website icasualties.org, 429 foreign troops have lost their lives in war-battered Afghanistan so far this year.
Nonetheless, last year remains the deadliest year for foreign military casualties with a death toll of 711. The number eclipsed the previous record of 521, set in 2009.
The security situation has been steadily deteriorating in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign troops in the country.
The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
