I went to Tajikistan during February , noticed that both Farsi (Tajik) and Russian are popular , Tajik is Farsi "but" written in Russian alphabet (which comes from Cyrillic) .

Research boost on Avicenna in Tajikistan

        14 Sep 2011 14:36
The Avicenna Foundation in Iran and the Philosophy Research Center of the Sciences Academy in Tajikistan have sealed an agreement to endorse studies on Avicenna for a year and introduce the man to the world.
IBNA: According to the public relations office of the Avicenna Foundation, the public relations and international affairs manager of the foundation has said that based on the agreement which was signed a few days ago, a top Tajik researcher on Avicenna who has done a lot to introduce the personage to the world will be revered in a ceremony.

Tavakol Daraei stated that the foundation will welcome the researcher in a one-week tour to Iranian philosophy centers.

It has been further agreed, he added, that the foundation and the Tajik Academy of Sciences jointly muster works and articles published in Tajikistan on Avicenna's works as a book and have it published in the coming year under the title of the Book of Avicenna.

As he said, as many as 100 books on Avicenna will be granted to libraries by the two organizations.

Moreover, a symphony will be performed in Dushanbe by an Iranian group besides a movie and series about Avicenna to be broadcast on the national Tajik TV.

Daraei went on to say that a festival will be held about Mir Seyed Ali Hamedani's works and personality by the organizations given the fact that the second Avicenna Award is arranged to be held by the foundation next year.

Also, based on the agreement, the organizations will hold celebrations on Avicenna's next birth anniversary.

Head of the public relations and international affairs office of the foundation further added that the foundation will financially support 10 MA and PhD theses of the Academy which will be done on Avicenna.

The organizations have also agreed to publish the facsimile of Avicenna's manuscripts in Tajikistan. Moreover, publication of other books by Avicenna should be supported by the organizations based on the agreement.

As Daraei said, in line with its goals and duties that are introduction of the cultural and scientific facets of Avicenna's personality, his works, treatises and writings, the foundation has set its chief obligation to cooperate with all cultural as well as scientific centers engaged with Avicenna research.

Alī al-Husayn ibn Sīnā commonly known as Ibn Sīnā or by his Latinized name Avicenna was a Persian polymath, who wrote almost 450 treatises on a wide range of subjects, of which around 240 have survived. In particular, 150 of his surviving treatises concentrate on philosophy and 40 of them concentrate on medicine.

ah, that's the word i was trying to think of, polymath. ibn sina sounds like an amazing man. those men who were versed in so many different fields are an inspiration.
it would be good if all the neighbours in that region could co-operate and have peace there.

They have relative piece in this region, north of Afghanistan's borders. The Uzbek-Kyrgyz violence and deaths last year, though tragic showed that at least the far more numerous Tajiks and Uzbeks have not fought each other.

The Tajik v Tajik civil war has ended, though I think there are still 1 million refugees as a result of that war, (though I will check online later to see if that's accurate).

So whilst things could be better, they are still successful in the relative peace they have. However Iran tries to promote its influence, religious ideology and Persian nationalism where ever, however it can.

It's quite well known. It supports and promotes Shia Hizbullah in Lebanon, Shias in Iraq, Shias in Bahrain to overthrow the government, Shia militias in Yemen, Shias in Afghanistan e.g. Hezb i Wahdat, Shias in Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of Pakistan. Ask others on the forum.

In addition to Shiasm it promotes Persian culture and nationalism including those aspects of Persian culture which pre-date Islam or even conflict with Islam.

Plus I have personally known Iranians, including Iranian Sunnis.

Very true. Millions of Muslims can now practise their religion in relative freedom from Bosnia in the west to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in the east due to the sacrifice of Afghan brothers and sisters.

Communists banned Islam in those countries.

                        not just that
the christians as well got freedom to practice their religion and the berlin wall fell which united the germans on both sides.

but the ultimate loosing side was Afghanistan and its people and we still havent erased the durrand line.

Yes, in fact not just Muslims. Christians, Buddhists, ordinary people, police-states finished and so on.

Unfortunately Afghanistan suffered and still suffers to this day.

However just as millions of people celebrated the fall of communism, millions will celebrate the fall of the US and western capitalism/imperialism at the hands of Afghans/Pashtuns.

but why shouldn't it assist shias in those countries? haven't many of them been murdered and oppressed by sunnis?
the saudis are building sunni mosques around the world, (it's well known) and the west has influenced many so why should iran keep itself locked in a box?

Of course states will seek to promote their beliefs and ideology. Saudis are disliked by other Muslim countries for promoting their school of thought.

However Iran does not just promote its views and culture, it promotes militant groups and also promotes false Iran-centric views of history. Also Saudis aren't hypocritical like the Iranians. They do not pretend to be pro-Shia and act otherwise, whilst the Iranians pretend to believe in Sunni-Shia unity whilst demolishing mosques and destroying Qurans in Iran.

As a Sunni Bangladeshi I dislike Iran (the regime) and Shiasm, simple.

We will always back Saudi Arabia over Iran where they insult the wife of the prophet (solAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam).
