UPDATE
Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran
Iran's first nuclear power plant has been connected to the national power grid, supplying 60 megawatts of its 1,000 megawatt capacity, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) says.
“The Bushehr nuclear power plant joined the national power grid with a capacity of around 60 megawatts on Saturday night at 11:29 p.m. (1859 GMT),” the AEOI announced Sunday, IRNA reported.
The connection of the plant in southern Iran to the national electricity grid was aimed at preparing the necessary ground for its preliminary inauguration.
According to Iran's nuclear officials, Bushehr power plant will reach its 40 percent capacity during a ceremony which will be held on September 12.
On August 27, the AEOI Deputy Head Mohammad Ahmadian said the pre-launch tests for Bushehr nuclear power plant were in their final stages.
“Bushehr nuclear plant is undergoing the final stages of the tests related to its launch and we hope that the plant will join the national power grid, based on the specified timeline,” he stated.
Iran signed a deal with Russia in 1995, under which the plant was originally scheduled to be completed in 1999, but the completion of the project was repeatedly delayed. The nuclear power plant was finally finished with the help of Russia following a three-decade delay.
On August 17, the AEOI Head Fereydoun Abbasi announced a plan for the official inauguration of Bushehr nuclear power plant with full capacity of 1,000 megawatts in late November or early December.
