  • Historic day for India..Parliament passes resolution on Anti-corruption Lokpal Bill

NEW DELHI: Both Houses of Parliament on Saturday passed a resolution conveying the sense of the House on the Lokpal Bill, paving the way for Anna Hazare to break his fast.

On a motion moved by Pranab Mukherjee, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha passed a resolution conveying the sense of the House on the Lokpal Bill.

After the passage of the resolution, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the Lok Sabha till Monday.

There was some confusion over whether the resolution was passed by a voice vote or not. Apparently, no voice vote took place.

"Thumping of the desk is akin to passing a motion by voice vote," Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar told Times Now.

After the passage of the Lokpal resolution in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha also passed the resolution.

Team Anna welcomes the passage of the Lokpal resolution, Kiran Bedi said.

Some of the important points of the Lokpal resolution passed by Parliament are:

*An effective Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states be set up.

*Employees of centre and state governments to be brought under purview of Lokpal and Lokayuktas respectively.

*All government departments to have citizen's charter with timeline.

With a copy of Lokpal resolution and a letter from PM Manmohan Singh, Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh would now go to Ramlila Maidan to meet Anna Hazare.

Earlier, the team Anna said they have received a communication from the government that a resolution carrying their demands on Lokpal Bill will be put to a voice vote, a move which they termed as a "very happy" development.

Fresh trouble emerged this afternoon after government decided only to convey sense of House to Team Anna and not put the resolution for voting, the activists hardened their position saying it was "betrayal" and only a resolution which will be put to vote will be acceptable.

This forced the government to change its stand. The activist's camp said they have received the communication from the government about its decision to put the resolution to voice vote.

The 74-year-old Gandhian has been on fast for the last 12 days, demanding the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill by Parliament.

Anna Hazare real hero, I am not: Aamir Khan

NEW DELHI: "I am not the biggest hero, Anna (Hazare) is the real hero," said superstar Aamir Khan on Saturday as he pledged support to the activist's fight for a strong anti-corruption law.

Khan's remarks at Ramlila Maidan came as a key Hazare aide Kumar Viswas described the actor as the biggest hero of the country who has lent his support to the movement.

Regaling Hazare's supporters by singing "Mitwaa..." from his superhit movie 'Lagaan', Khan requested the 74-year-old activist to call off his fast as they needed him for leading the countrymen in further struggle.

"I request you to end your fast because we understand that it is a process and Parliament must debate the bill," he said.

"This is the first episode of the struggle. The climax would be when we get the strong Lokpal Bill," Aamir, who "knows what Jan Lokpal Bill is and the differences between it and other versions," said.

He said people should approach their MPs "whom we have elected" and ask them to support Hazare's version of the bill.

"I will meet my MP Priya Dutt and tell her please support the Jan Lokpal Bill. I would say that every Indian must ask their MPs to support this bill. Our eyes are on them," he said.

Khan also spoke with Dr Naresh Trehan, who had come to examine Hazare, and enquired about his health.

"I have no doubt in my mind that we'll get a strong Lokpal Bill. However, we need to decide as to how we are going to live our lives... Will we give or accept bribes? Will we say no to corruption in our lives," Khan said.

"It's high time everyone of us said no to any kind of corruption. Our actions will determine whether India becomes a corruption-free country or not," the actor said.

When asked by Kiran Bedi if Bollywood would lend its support to the anti-corruption movement when needed, Khan said, "Not only Bollywood, every Indian is with Anna Hazare in his fight against corruption. We will fully support him when needed".

Director Raju Hirani said he had never imagined that a day would come when the whole country would stand up against corruption.

"It has become possible because of Anna and I have come here to salute him," he said, adding that "we need you (Anna) in this battle against corruption... Please break your fast and stay with us."

Parliament adopts “Sense of the House” resolution on Lokpal

The Parliament has adopted the “Sense of the House” resolution on three key issues raised by Anna Hazare.
The resolution, moved by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, was first adopted by the Lok Sabha by thumping of desks. Later, the Rajya Sabha adopted the move.
The “Sense of the House” will be conveyed to Mr. Hazare shortly through Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, sources said.
      The “Sense of the House” resolution moved by Mr. Mukherjee reads: “This House agrees ‘in principle’ on following issues — (i) Citizen's Charter, (ii) lower bureaucracy under Lokpal through an appropriate mechanism, and (iii) establishment of Lokayukta in the States;
And further resolves to forward the proceedings of the House to the Standing Committee on Law and Justice while finalising its report.”
Earlier, the government and the Opposition reached an agreement under which the Parliament will adopt a resolution incorporating the three demands of Team Anna.
The turnaround came when the Bharatiya Janata Party heard Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal announce at the Ramlila grounds that the government had conveyed to them the Opposition’s reluctance to vote on a resolution in Parliament on the Lokpal issue.
National Democratic Alliance working president L.K. Advani, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her counterpart in the Rajya Sahba Arun Jaitley took the matter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Sources said Mr. Mukherjee and Union Law Minister Salman Kurshid denied that the government had made any such charge.
When the BJP insisted that in the changed circumstances, a resolution should be moved and put to a voice vote, the government agreed to it. Some young Ministers and MPs from the Congress also insisted on a resolution and vote as they felt Team Anna will not settle for anything less.
It has been decided that the resolution will be moved by Mr. Mukherjee. The wording of the resolution was worked out with the Opposition.
Sources said the resolution mentions all the three demands of Anna Hazare, namely a Citizen’s Charter, Lokayukta in States and including lower bureaucracy under Lokpal’s ambit.
The resolution states that the House agrees “in principle” on these issues. It will be put to a voice vote in both Houses.
Once the resolution is passed, Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will take its translated Marathi version to Anna Hazare and request him to break his fasthttp://www.thehindu.com/news/national/article2403358.ece

in pakistan, especially these days people lack patriotism, to do this kind of movement you have to be a patriotic citizen of the country and fight for the country. I doubt pakistanis have the same desire to fight to save pakistan, maybe some do still, but it can not turn in to a mass movement like in India where people actually love their country and want to see it progress and get rid of corruption
