An explosion has ripped through the entrance of a heavily-guarded US-run civil-military base in eastern Afghanistan, causing an unknown number of casualties, an Afghan official said.
The Taliban, the main militant group behind a escalating insurgency, said the group had attacked the base, in Gardez, the capital of eastern Paktia province, with a suicide car bomb on Thursday.

A powerful explosion has rocked a US military base in eastern Afghanistan and reportedly killed at least 27 American soldiers and left dozens wounded.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the deadly attack, saying the huge explosion left at least 27 American troops killed and 34 others wounded, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The incident occurred early Thursday when a truck bomb went off inside the US military base in Gardez city, the capital of Afghanistan's Paktia province.

According to the Taliban spokesman, the truck contained hundreds of kilos of explosives.

Witnesses say the explosion was very powerful and a US helicopter was also destroyed in the blast.

American forces in Afghanistan have been experiencing their deadliest days since the beginning of August.

On August 6, at least 31 US Special Forces were killed after Taliban militants shot down an American helicopter belonging to NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan's eastern province of Wardak.

The death toll was the biggest in a single incident for foreign forces since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001.

In another attack on August 11, ISAF said in a statement that six US-led soldiers lost their lives following the explosion of a roadside bomb in volatile southern Afghanistan.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign forces in the war-torn country.

The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

An Afghan medic has confirmed this.

The casualties are 27 US soldiers.

What I do see is an IED killing 20 passengers On a minibus.

It also says 2 security guards were killed by a blast in Gardez. Not 27 US soldiers.

Americans have to liberate their country from those who don't care about their sons and daughters, their economy and even their infrastructures that are crumbling everyday. Those same zionists who would never send their spoiled brats to Iraq or Afghanistan so they face the lies of their own media. Wouldn't these US soldiers be more useful on the Mexican border fighting drug dealers?

Surely they all died in vane. For my brother and I at the ignorant age of 18, totally brainwashed by corporate media, we joined the Vietnam War. And notwithstanding such an innocent frame of mind, in the eyes of heaven, if we had been killed in battle by the Vietnamese it would have been the better of two evils. In the early morning i turned on my tv and was lestinig to the world news in germany. they were claiming that an explosion has rocked the us military base in eastern afghanistan and ONLY SOME AFGHANS WERE KILLED OUTSIDE THE BASE. Listen to the GWN(German Welps News) its funny.

It is never good to see or hear of anyone dying. The US/NATO coalition is certainly in the wrong, but the soldiers over there are just 18/19/20 something year old kids with a high school diploma or GED taking orders from a corrupt and crooked US government and military. God don't like wickedness nor deceitfulness but I don't believe he takes pleasure in the death of a human (any human). I pray for the wisdom of God to lead us all.
