‘Devil’ son raped his own mother
A son thought he was the devil when he gouged out his mother’s eyes and raped her, a jury has heard.
The 23-year-old attacked his mother as she sat on the sofa before running naked out of the family home and launching himself at passing cars.
When police arrived at the house they discovered his 53-year-old mother, a health care assistant, covered in blood and blinded.
The son lay injured by the side of the road ‘mouthing strange words’ and seeming possessed, Reading crown court heard. Later, in a police cell he claimed he was the devil.
The jury was told that although the man had committed the crimes, he could be found not guilty on the grounds that he was insane. Neither person can be named for legal reasons.
Alan Blake, prosecuting, said the mother and son had a ‘toxic’ relationship.
The man spent a lot of time in his room, obsessed with rap music. When police went to the house in Slough, Berkshire, last November they were confronted with a ‘horrific’ scene.
Doctors could not save her sight and had to remove her eyeballs.
The trial continues.
