    Oxus River Oil Deposits
    To Be Mined Soon

Fuel deposits in Oxus river zone would be mined in a month
or so, as Ministry of Mines is studying proposals made by
    fuel extraction companies.

Officials in Ministry of Mines said they are still working to implement social
    strategy of mines.

The extraction agreement of the first fuel zone of the country still has to
be approved by council of ministers and under the agreement the
successful company could extract fuel in the zone for 25 years, officials
    said.

Mines Ministry has estimated the capacity of oil in the Oxus river fuel zone
    at 87 million barrels.

"It is crude oil ... and this would be the first biggest project for
development of fuel zones in Afghanistan," Mines Minister Waheedullah
    Shahrani said.

In the near future social initiative of mines would be put in place and the
initiative considers new accommodations, compensation of losses, creation
of jobs and capacity building of people living in mines neighborhoods,
    officials said.

"Having a clear policy and guideline will not only help the Afghan
government, but will also attract international investors," Mr Sharani said.

Eleven companies have presented their proposals to win the project for
extraction of Oxus fuel zone and the winner will be announced in a couple
    of days, he said.

      Chinese Company Likely To
      Win Afghan Oil Extraction Bid

The Afghan Ministry of Mines on Wednesday said that a Chinese company is
likely to win an oil extraction bid in northern Afghanistan.

The Chinese company, CNPC International, has offered 15 per cent of oil to the
Afghan government - the highest offer to the government -- encouraging the ministry
of mines to award the contract to the Chinese firm.

If the government agrees with the company on specifications and details of
extraction, the company will win the contract, said a spokesman for the Ministry of
      Mines, Jawad Omar.

The ministry will start negotiations with the company within a month, he added.

The Amo river oil deposits exceeds 80 million barrels, according experts.
A dozen companies had participated in the tender process and four companies
provided their proposals on time, among them CNPC International.

          petroleum

KABUL: China is interested to invest on petroleum in Afghanistan, said media outlets.

Reports said that one of Chinese national petroleum companies (CNPC) has won the
bidding process for extracting petroleum resources in Afghanistan. An Afghan official
Jalil Jumriani has said that CNPC a Chinese company won the bidding to invest in fuel

Based on the news report Kashkari, Bazarkhami, and Zamarodsai in north are the major

Meanwhile, the Afghan Mines Ministry has 30 days time to start dealing with
CNCP—the Chinese fuel company, or otherwise an Australian company will be the
          winner.

Mines ministry spokesperson Jawad Omer in a chat with Afghanistan times said that
still it is early to state anything on who will invest on fuel sector while the discussion
          has not been finalized.

He called the CNPC offer the best one said that still the winner and loser has not been
cleared while discuss is running and has not been finalized with the same company.

The results of discussion with the best company will be offered to cabinet council
based on the Afghan cabinet council order to the mine affaires specific committee and
          mine ministry, added Omer.

According to him, they have only three days time to start discussion with the same
Chinese company up to 12 September.

The talks will be started with the second fuel company as submitted its offer if the
talks end with no specific result based on Afghan government order, he added.

Based on an estimated by US geology agency, Afghanistan has 1.6b barrels raw
unextracted fuel and also 16 trillions cubic meters natural gas resources.
