Hamsayeh.Net - A powerful anti-aircraft rocket shot by the Taliban brought down a US helicopter conducting a nightly raid over Wardak Province killing all 31 US servicemen onboard.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the precision attack saying wreckage of the craft was strewn at the scene, AP reported.
This is the largest US casualty in years since 2005 when 16 troops were killed by the Taliban which have vowed to continue resistance until a complete US military defeat and withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Although US deploys tens of thousands of troops in Afghanistan, only a handful of them take part in real combat scenarios. In the mean time the rest of those troops represent a huge burden on American taxpayers who unwittingly are paying for US government’s military adventures.
On Saturday Afghan President Hamid Karzai first gave news of the crash saying in a statement, ‘a NATO helicopter crashed last night in Wardak province and that 31 American special operations troops were killed.’
Taliban spokesman also reported the attack in a statement describing how fighters downed the aircraft in a heavy raid in Saydabad a district of Wardak province. It said US troops attacked a house belonging to resistance fighters on Friday night when fighters brought down the helicopter killing all Americans and seven other Afghans.
