Ministry of Mines concerned over
Badakhshan Lapis Mine

Ministry of Mines on Thursday announced that the recent investigations
show indicate illegal extraction of lapis lazuli mine in Badakhshan province.
According to the Ministry this mine will soon be handed over to private
sector.
A delegation recently visited Badakhshan province to investigate about the
lapis mine and discovered that illegal extractions had been going on.
The Ministry says their investigation results indicate the lapis lazuli mine is
extracted unprofessionally by some powerful figures due to which Afghan
government has suffered millions of Afghanis.
"Afghan Ministry of Mines is working classification of the mine and it will be
put into bid as soon as possible." Jawad Omar, spokesman to Ministry of
Mines told TOLOnews.
According to reports, the Badakhshan lapis mine is the largest in the world
and is located in higher areas of Kiran and Manjan 150km away from
provincial capital Faizabad.
According to officials, unprofessional extraction of the mine causes a
downfall in its prices globally because its being extracted by explosions and
the cobalt blue tears into pieces.
Criminals illegally hunting snow leopards....Criminals illegally chopping down trees....and now Criminals illegally extracting lapis.
Well they're not the only criminals in Afghanistan. The country is full of them.
