In my opinion it is being ignorant of history if we do not give the blacks a break. I see just how desparate their situation is since Yale's University Hospital serves the inner city populations. These people are down trodden and have little if any hope of breaking this cycle.

Here is why: The reason why our parents, emigres/immigrants alike, could break the cycle, acquire education or resources is simply because they were born free and were not locked in a cycle of slavery. They could think like free people with secure family bonds and a stable family structure. This allowed them to advance their status.

Imagine if you were in that initial group taken from Africa, thrown onto a slave ship with a group of people that were not at all related to you likely, and forced into complete servitude. These people were treated like animals for 500 years each generations in succession. They were forced to live in their own hut off the master's plantation and they were not allowed to learn reading, writing, culture, religion (save what the master allowed them to learn). They were made to breed with the master without any benefits of that descendent acquiring his father's resources.

If you took a group of Pashtuns and smacked the shackles on them and put them in the exact situation you would have this exact same outcome. The same phenomenon is seen amongst the native americans (though they were decimated).

This is exactly why this idiotic idea of "letting the Americans stay to make Afghanistan better" is absurd. A people who are on the receiving end are bound to meet devastation as a consequence.

Remember that each time you see that ganster thug with in Detroit central, walking with his baggy pants half way down, with his dirty clothes and rough manner that he probably doesnt know his father... and his mother probably has 5 siblings from five different fathers. His father had the same situation... as did his father. There is no societal structure except the loose semblance of something called a family.

Diabetes, Hypertension, drug use etc runs rampant through these groups, the native Americans and the African Americans.

I am not saying each person does not have a personal responsibility... but I am pointing out that slavery for 500 years in succession is not going to produce Ahmad Shah Abdalis, Einsteins, Ron Pauls, etc.

If you visit inner-city neighborhoods you will aback on how many liquor, and tobacco stores they are. When you drive to upper-class neighborhoods you will barely find any. In fact being granted a permit to sell these products are easier to get in inner-cities, then a rich neighborhood.

Not to mention the schools, which are purposely under-funded and under developed.

my proposal of listening to music from the past compared to now still holds up. slavery ended hundreds of years ago, when it did there was no law outlawing stable families. blacks brought broken homes on themselves.

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

the thing is that, people in afghanistan are far far worse off than blacks in america. blacks in america have welfare which makes them rich compared to the average afghan. blacks have infrastructure, food, clean water, healthcare, roofs over their heads, and other such support.

in spite of this, they degrade themselves lower than low, their entire culture is ignorance. their men are illiterate idiots, their women are complete utter ****s.

now of course this does not mean all blacks are like this, but enough are to warrant a comparison.

i hate people who blame their peoples problems on others. blacks or afghans.

Not necessarily, compare James Brown and Chuck Barry's life story to Elvis Presley's. In the background, their lives were horrible.

I agree that personal responsibility was what made a man like Malcolm X evolve. What I am saying is that you and me can trace our tribes and ancestories for hundreds of years. We know exactly who we are. We are shaped by the morals and the guidance of the generations before us.

These folks are the product of hundreds of years of neglect and servitude. Remember, it was only in JFK's time that full rights were acquired... thats not so long ago. Up till then, and even a few years after in the South, there were separate drinking fountains... certain stores were barred etc.

As a comparable population substrate, think about the Untouchables in India and how destitute they are. Very few broke through with India's new laws... even to now the Untouchable villages are backwards and the people are very rough and abused. Their demeaner reflects this. Quiet often, people think that down trodden and abused people are sad faced and are soft. Quiet the contrary, the lack of civility and the environment turns them rough and makes them creatures of survival.

Yes but the Afghan is sovereign... he can come and go as he pleases... he knows his lineage... he will pick up the gun if and when he is threatened. He may be destitute... but he still knows his identity.

Take that same Afghan male of female and put them on a plantation... deprive them of the right to go anywhere, deny them any access to outside knowledge, their faith, their freedom, treat them like a dog, and within a few generations their kids will be no different.

Poverty does not translate into idiocy. The fact that such infrastructure exists here and that they are still so degraded as a society shows that a devastating insult occured to them and that the effects of is are lasting. If you travel to an American Indian reservation you can see similar outcomes.

after the slave trade ended, blacks married blacks and were not separated. their children knew their parents and so on. they had their new found christianity, were fluent in english(probably more so then than now) something went wrong along the way.

did black africans not migrate to liberia? the place is a mess.

this all reminds me of ibn khalduns characterization of the black african nations he traveled through.

Randolph, sometimes in life it is best to listen to people who have more knowledge than you in this subject.

I am an eye-witness to the destruction of the Black people. I have volunteered in free clinics in their areas. They are finished. They have no will. Sex and drugs is all that is on their mind. STD's is prevalent amongst them. A few rise up, but not many.

I have only seen maybe 3 Native Americans (American Indians) in my life.

The system destroyed them. Have you heard about the experiment with the mouse? Where they shock the mouse, and it jumps, then eventually it stops jumping?

Thats what they did to the Blacks. They could not really do that to the Native Americans, so they decided to just massacre them until they posed no threat.

400-500 years of slavery is something that leaves a people destroyed.

i have recently seen news excerts and documentary where extra education is helping african americans change their lives. even long term prisonersare being educated and getting good jobs. inherent poverty for black people in a white european style society puts them at a disadvantage. it is the same in australia where the aboriginals were not even allowed to speak their own language, weren't educated apart from being taught to be servants or used as cheap labour. their land and their children were stolen from them and they were put in the control of christians on reserves.
education, environment and poverty are the big influences, plus getting the chip off the shoulder and taking responsibility for creating their own future.

thats actually incredibly ignorant to say. Im all for personal responsibility and tough love, and I dont get swayed by excuses, but the history speaks for itself

We dont even need to go back to slavery to understand why things are the way they are. You can even disregard the effect of slavery, because the this past century tells us all we need to know

                            1. the post war boom of the 40s and 50s led to several trends. primarily, you see an influx of southern blacks into the midwest (chicago) and the west coast in search of opportunity. the end of the extended black family clan didnt have an affect at the time due to the increasing living standards of the average black family but would emerge as an issue later. the 2nd trend was the growth of the black middle class which led to increasing home ownership. this lead to what was called "white flight", white populations fleeing neighbourhoods where blacks moved. usually this wasnt just done at the local level by homeowners but through colloboration with the state, and business leaders. the result was ethnically segregated black communities, which wasnt a problem as long as families were eating

                            2. the civil rights leaders of the 50s and 60s were all killed or in jail by the time the 70s came around. malcolm dead, martin dead, h rap brown on the run, black panthers vs us organization wars instigated by the fbi, the state destroyed the black leadership, look into the COINTELPRO program, a few of the files are now declassified

                            3. by the 1970s with the advent of the oil crisis and recession, we saw the beginning of the loss of manufacturing jobs, which hit the black community the hardest as they tended to be mainly blue collar workers

                            4. the influx of heroin in the 70s, and on a much greater scale, crack in the 80s destroyed the black community in multiple ways. the users become useless, abandoning all responsibility and relationships, while the pushers became incarcerated. even here, you cant blame blacks because the cocaine was DELIBERATELY ALLOWED into black communities by the CIA to fund its central american wars. with the loss in manufacturing jobs and cracks in the black family structure, drugs was the sole source of income

so as you can see, this is not a black and white issue. i believe they CAN fix alot of things themselves with the right help and proper initiative from black leaders, but alot of crimes have been commited against them

actually about 70-80% of AFrican Americans show a European Y-chromosomal DNA which indicates they're descendants of slave women and white owners

actually lets not let popular news sensationalize what's happening on the ground; African Americans are increasingly entering the Middle Class, albeit the Middle Class in America is diminishing. The whole "jigga boo" stereotype is evaporating.
