North Korea is reportedly preparing for a military exercise in the Yellow Sea amid fears of further escalation of tension in the Korean Peninsula.
The military drill is set to involve Pyongyang's army, navy and air force, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted a government source as saying.
The source further explained that Pyongyang had gathered about 20 navy vessels including landing craft off the western port of Nampo and deployed MiG-21 fighters to Onchon airbase to carry out the military maneuver, AFP reported on Tuesday.
"It depends on the weather, but we believe they're setting up for a landing exercise sometime after Wednesday," the source said.
The report of a possible North Korean maneuver came just days after Pyongyang's nuclear envoy met with his South Korean counterpart, which prompted the speculation that the tensions between the two neighbors would be resolved.
A North Korean nuclear envoy is also set to meet US officials in New York this week to discuss ways to resume stalled six-party talks.
Meanwhile earlier last week, the US and South Korea said they would stage an annual joint military exercise in mid August.
Washington and Seoul have conducted many joint drills in waters east of the Korean Peninsula. North Korea has repeatedly condemned the move as a provocation.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have flared since the South accused the North of torpedoing one of its warships and killing 46 sailors onboard last year. Pyongyang, however, denied any wrongdoing.
