'Iran shoots down US spy drone'
    Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:0PM GMT

PressTV - 'Iran shoots down US spy drone'

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has shot down a US spy drone which was flying over the central Iranian province of Qom, an lawmaker says.

A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Majlis (Parliament), Ali Aqazadeh Dafsari, said on Tuesday that the unmanned spy plane was flying near the Fordo nuclear enrichment plant in Qom province when the IRGC's Air Defense units brought it down, Javanoline.ir reported.

The official stated that the US drone was on a mission to identify the location of the Fordo nuclear enrichment plant and gather information about the newly constructed nuclear facility for the CIA, Dafsari stated.

Earlier in the day, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, had said that the country is installing a new generation of uranium enrichment centrifuges in the country's nuclear facilities to enhance the Islamic Republic's peaceful nuclear program.

As a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has every right to develop and acquire nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence indicating that Iran's civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.

Good work, Iranian Air Force or whoever did that -
    I hope it's actually confirmed
Let's see 'em all shot down,
    no kidding
They are like evil vultures snooping;...
or worse: killing with no conscience
whomever happens to get in their way that day.

The whole drone operation must have been
dreamed up and perpetuated by Shaitan.

What a blight on the record of America, these
    drones and their illegal operations.

I hope every single one everywhere is neutralized
so as to avoid any wrongdoing.

    Great news, makes my day.

The problem with Iranians is that they are very fond of making all sorts of wild, unverified claims via their Presstv organ. That half the time it's hard to know quite what to believe. Nevertheless Iran and Israel have been knocking out far more heated retrotic recently. Even though it's most likely merely more smoke and mirrors.

There is almost "near certainty" that Netanyahu is "planning an attack [on Iran] ... and it will probably be in September before the vote on a Palestinian state. And he's also hoping to draw the United States into the conflict", Baer explained.

The Israeli air force would attack "Natanz and other nuclear facilities to degrade their capabilities. The Iranians will strike back where they can: Basra, Baghdad", he said, and even Afghanistan. Then the United States would jump into the fight with attacks on Iranian targets. "Our special forces are already looking at Iranian targets in Iraq and across the border [in Iran] which we would strike. What we're facing here is an escalation, rather than a planned out-and-out war. It's a nightmare scenario. We don't have enough troops in the Middle East to fight a war like that." Baer added, "I think we are looking into the abyss".

Iran 'to send enemies to morgue'

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Islamic Republic will continue resisting its arrogant enemies, including Israel, until their total annihilation. The resistance would last until the country “sends them [its sworn enemies] to the morgue,” Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday, the official website of Iran's president reported.

The Iranian chief executive said the United States and Israel were nearing their collapse “breathing their last breaths.” He stressed that Iran has never thought of an attack on other countries, but warned if any superpower launched an offensive against the country, the Iranian nation would “cut off its hands,” reminding that the Islamic Republic is globally known as the “biggest military might” in the region.

Ahmadinejad said arrogant powers were trampling on humanity “in order to achieve their own interests.”

Iran's acceleration of its nuclear programme angers the west

Tehran's claim that tripling its uranium enrichment speed will help develop cancer treatments is dismissed as 'a provocation'

Western capitals have reacted angrily to an announcement by Iran that it is installing more advanced centrifuges in a uranium enrichment plant with the aim of accelerating its nuclear programme.

"The installation of new centrifuges with better quality and speed is ongoing," Ramin Mehmanparast, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, told reporters at his weekly press briefing.

"We have announced it and the agency [the International Atomic Energy Agency] has full supervision of them. They are fully aware that Iran's peaceful nuclear activity continues to progress. This is another confirmation of the Islamic republic's successful strides in its nuclear activities."

Do you have proof that this did not happen? Do you mind introducing yourself? This is also the common theme that the West continues to spin. It also goes along the lines of characterizing Ahmadinejad as a mad man. To a degree they have been successful, but only because they prefer to show partial truths.

But why can't Iran, and all other countries pursue their rights to becoming nuclear powers?

iran is much too big of a player for the US and its allies to take on. US might very well default on their budget, they and their allies are pulling troops from most of the fronts..the chances of a conflict with Iran are next to nothing. The americans will only proceed with sanctions because that is all they can do, cuz unlike Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan there are no ethnic/religious weakpoints to be exploited in Iran

Iran is within Russia's sphere and it's is a major energy exporter to China. However Iran is flanked now by the West on two fronts and it isn't in a especially good position.

Nevertheless it makes far more sense for the Israelis to preemptively, strike Iran's nuclear facilities. Than for the West to launch an Iraqi style Westen invasion of Iran. I don't view Iran as some kind of an immovable mountain. However I be very surprised indeed if the West actually elected to invade Iran.

Whilst Iran is a fairly stable enity. The Iranian regimes weakness is that they are forced to continuously resort to repression. Without his Western aggressors, Ahmadinejad would most probably be sleeping under an arch. As Ahmadinejad's function is merely to place a semi-secular face upon and deflect attention away from Iran's theocratic regime and domestic problems.

Iran by basing missiles in Syria and Lebanon has established a deterrent to Israeli Air strikes. However I very much doubt that either the Turks or Israelis are going to tolerate any kind of Iranian naval presence in Syria. Iran isn't on a par with Turkey, economically or militarily and Turkey could even elect to "liberate" Syria for geostrategic reasons. I'd also say that theirs a good deal of bad blood, between Iran and Turkey.

Reports: US Drone Shot Down Cver Iran Nuke Site

Real News Reporter July 20th, 2011

Lawmaker claims unmanned spy plane was gathering information about the plant

A U.S. drone has been shot down while flying over a nuclear facility in Iran, according to Iranian media reports.
Ali Aqazadeh Dafsari, a member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told Iran’s Fars news agency the unmanned spy plane was flying near the Fordo nuclear enrichment plant in Qom province when it was brought down by Revolutionary Guard soldiers.
He did not say when the alleged incident took place.

Mr Dafsari claimed the drone was trying to gather information about the nuclear facility for the CIA.

The agency also said Iranian military officials had claimed to have shot down ‘several enemy drones’ in January.

‘We have experienced similar incidents many times in the past and there have even been drones belonging to the occupying Zionist regime (Israel), the U.S. and Britain which have been shot down in the Persian Gulf during the past seven years,’ a senior military officials said at the time.

Iran is locked in a dispute with the U.S. and its allies over Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme, which the West believes aims to develop nuclear weapons.

Iran denies the accusations, saying its nuclear programme will generate electricity and produce isotopes to treat medical patients.."
