  • Congratulations to Afghans: Graveyard of Empires

Many years ago, when I was younger I heard an Imam who was educated in Saudi Arabia speak. He was quite impressive in his charismatic way of speaking and even in my young age I was taken aback by his powerful use of Tasfeer (Quranic exegesis) to illustrate many examples of how statements in the holy Quran could be seen taking place in the world that we lived in. As he explained us in the Tafseer class in Riyadh where he studied, the top marks were not give purely for memorization but in how ayaat (verses) could be used to explain the "waaqiah" (reality/contemporary affairs).

One thing which he said struck me and remained, and especially since I would be able to see how accurate (or inaccurate) his prediction was. He said the same people that helped to destroy the USSR would destroy American imperialism.

In the years since I wondered what would happen to Afghanistan and the US. I felt the US was different to the USSR. It was a far cleverer opponent with far more resources. Far crueller and manipulative in how it studied different cultures and languages thoroughly and like its fellow Anglo-Saxon predecessor, the British Empire, consequently engaged in a murderous policy of divide and rule. The British for instance created the state of Pakistan with its awkard boundaries and thus an inevitability of future war, and with its creation, Pakistan saw the death of around 1 million people, a baptism of blood and destruction. The British too helped to create the state of Israel with their famous Balfour declaration, leading to a problem which many argue is one of the biggest causes of world instability.

The Americans went to Iraq under a false pretext and destroyed the country, but they essentially won. They went to Afghanistan and are now withdrawing and in the past few days, the current US president (a figurehead for the oligarchy that rule the US), Obama publicy went to the length of denying that the United States was the "next Greece", even putting the world's largest economy alongside a relatively insignificant country in south-eastern Europe.

The US is now on the road to decline, but not destruction. Afghans/Pashtuns defeated the British Empire, but Britain still remains a power but a shadow of its former self.

The Afghans/Pakhtuns defeated the British Empire that ruled 1/4 of the world.

The Afghans/Pakhtuns defeated the USSR which was 15 countries combined in to one, with 1/6 of the world's land mass and 30,000 nuclear missiles.

The Afghans/Pakhtuns have now essentially defeated the US which will be withdrawing and the US recently removing Taliban leaders from a blacklist.

To conclude I have seen that this Imam's words were indeed proven to be true with the passage of time and the Pakhtun has once again defeated another superpower.

I will end this post on this note, I congratulate Afghans/Pakhtuns on their victory. There is much more work to be done, and there are of course problems in FATA, Karachi and elsewhere, but this will be resolved with time.

History will bear witness however the Muslim Pakhtun defeated the western USA, the biggest and most powerful Christian state on earth.

US imperialism, the atrocities of an Empire and regime in decline.

Foot soldier of the American empire punching an Iraqi in Abu Ghraib.

PAKHTUN, a proud looking member of the Yusufzai tribe of Pakhtoons. America has been defeated at the hands of Pakhtuns, who have contributed to the possible bankrupting of the USA.

PAKHTUN, Afridi a celebrated tribe of Pakhtoons from whom came the legendary Ajab Khan Afridi (rahmatullahi alaih).

PAKHTUN, Waziri tribesman. The Waziris could never be fully subdued by the British Empire that ruled 1/4 of the world.

PAKHTUN, Kasi Pashtuns. Kasis are a fierce and dangerous tribe of Pakhtuns many of whom are in Quetta. Here Kasi Pashtuns conduct funeral prayers for Mir Aimal Kasi who fearlessly went directly in front of the belly of the beast, the CIA headquarters in Virginia and eliminated two CIA operatives and refused to shoot a woman. Kasi said he attacked the CIA headquarters singlehandedly because of the scenes of suffering and pain he had seen on TV about Muslims in Iraq and Palestine.

PAKHTUN, Waziri tribesmen. Waziris are Karlanri tribes and are seen as tough and ferocious even by other Pakhtuns. Their commitment to their independence is so much that it is said they even refused to be accepted by Ahmad Shah Abdali (rahmatullahi alaih), the greatest Pakhtun of all time.

PAKHTUNS, Pashtoon tribesmen in jirga (council), an important institution in the Pakhtun code of honour known as "Pashtunwali". It is a custom such as jirga and the wider Pakhtun code of honour which has played a part in defeating the British Empire which ruled 1/4 of the world, the USSR which ruled 1/6 of the world and now the most powerful military state ever seen on the face of the earth, the USA.

Thank for writing this nice piece.

And the credit of all of this would be stolen by the tight pants shirt wearing babu saibs who quickly were ready to bend over at the first sight of trouble. They will be the first to teach their kids about these events and take fake pride over events they had nothing to do. While those who truly deserve the credit will go down in history without names or recognition.

Freedom, dignity, honor, respect, and independence.

Material life is crap. You can have the highest of buildings, the fastest of cars, the glitter and shine of all the wealth you desire...but if you are not content with it, what is the point? Ever heard of empty success syndrome? It's when rich people, who have achieved everything in life off themselves because they still feel empty. No one likes or loves wars. The wars of the Afghan people and their struggle against them (which you call jihad) is not of their doing. These wars have been imposed upon them.

There is no greater feeling than winning a war that you truly believe was just. There is no greater feeling in liberating your country from an occupation. These good feelings, this sense of completeness, worthiness, can not be achieved with any modern technology or medicine. This is why when the occupying forces go home, fighting a war, the kill themselves or become social rejects because no matter how you put it to them they know they fought unjust wars and did unjust things.

On the other hand those who fight just wars, just fights, like liberating their country, their people, can actually blow themselves up but still feel good...why? Because they know that their cause is justified. The end justifies the mean as they say.

Last, your argument would be valid if it was the Afghans that invaded Britain, Russia and America.

The British, Russians, and Americans should be asking themselves, what have all these "wars" gotten us? Not Afghans, they fought for their lives, their existence, their FREEDOM.

Maybe after this war, the world would just leave the Afghans the ***K alone.

dignity? tell that to the refugees in camps, orphans in kabul and prostitutes in peshawar?

respect? associated with terrorism, homosexuality, backwardness, fundementalism and anti social behaviour?

independence? the same independence that somehow keeps disappearing with the invasion of foreigners every few years?

freedom? find me a free afghan?

this narrative of us noble pakhtun warriors is a narrative whose usefullness has long expired

no one is suggesting defending yourself or seeking freedom are negative traits. but this characterization we;ve internalized, and foreigners help promote, has done us no good in our modern history and only ceases to self inflate the ego and distract us from the real issues

You are arguing the symptoms of the wars imposed on the Afghans, not the causes. You are also holding Afghans responsible for these symptoms, which they didn't cause.

Let me ask you this, what should have Afghans done when they were invaded by the British, Russians and now Americans?
