Five NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan's Kapisa province
A bomb attack has killed at least five US-led foreign troops and an Afghan civilian and wounded several others in northeastern Afghanistan.
Five soldiers died after a bomb ripped through their vehicle in the Tagab district of Kapisa province. They were on a routine patrol.
The office of France's President Nicolas Sarkozy confirmed the five soldiers killed in Tagab were French.
It added that the attack also killed an Afghan civilian and "gravely wounded" four more soldiers and three more local civilians.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack but said 27 French troops were killed.
Meanwhile, two other NATO soldiers were killed in a separate attack and a bomb blast in southern Afghanistan.
The latest casualties bring the NATO death toll to at least 306 this year. According to official figures, more than 2,587 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
Violence in Afghanistan has been at its worst since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001. The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign forces in the country.
