    Taliban shoot down US drone
    Mon Jun 27, 2011 12:59PM
PressTV - Taliban shoot down US drone

NATO says Taliban militants have shot down an unmanned aircraft belonging to US-led forces in the troubled northeastern Afghanistan.

The US-led military alliance said in a statement that the unmanned plane was shot down by Taliban militants over Kapisa Province, a Press TV correspondent reported on Monday.

Taliban says it has the wreckage of the NATO drone.

The militants have proven resilient faced with NATO's 150,000 strong-contingent.

They have stepped up their attacks on US-led forces, inflicting an increasing number of casualties.

The Taliban claim they have shot down several aircraft and NATO choppers in different parts of Afghanistan over the past few months.

The war in Afghanistan has become the longest war in US history. With civilian and military casualties at record highs, many question the motives in the ongoing conflict.

The developments also come as Taliban militants have been making inroads in different parts of Afghanistan.

Let's find out if it's true

    Quite interesting if so.

But such claims have been made earlier without provision of real evidence.

If true, I wonder what weapon they used, like a Stinger ?

if they had stingers, they would be downing military aircraft full of soldiers instead of wasting expensive missiles on unmanned drones. i doubt the taliban have any stingers these days and even if they do, the technology is outdated.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

What do you mean if its true. The Taliban claimed it and NATO confirmed it so who is telling the truth.

Really, a Dashika could do that?

I didn't know that NATO confirmed it when I wrote that.

Regarding Stingers, we never hear of them anymore because
they have a limited "shelf life".
They go bad after awhile -

In fact I don't believe they were all that successful as portrayed in
American media [& Charlie Wilson movie -UGH!].

It's an interesting question from the Soviet war times. I would
like to really figure that out objectively how much they
"forced" Red Army to withdraw from Afghanistan.

Is there any more news on THIS drone ?
I wish the whole arsenal of them would disintegrate instantly

          They are SUCH EVIL DEVICES>

The Red Army was not forced out by the stingers. The stingers were introduced to the war in 84 and the Soviet Generals were looking for an exit as early as 82 because they realized that the Afghan governments position actually weakened when the Red Army was introduced and their position strengthened when the Red Army exited.
This will not be the case when the Americans leave. The militias that were there before 911 are still intact in some form and the Afghan government has zero credibility. Without US boots on the ground the Afghan government will fall very quickly.
