Actually smuggling does not effect the countries economy, it just effects the governments income from the taxes that the smugglers are avoiding. But the pakistanis governments income come from american taxpayers. So no worries there.

Impossible. The US, whether you like it or not, is on a whole different level when it comes to innovation, higher education, military, and economics. Things will change the day when the world begins applying en-masse to Chinese Universities. As of today, it's the complete opposite. The Chinese are doing whatever they can to attend MIT, Stanford, etc. China has a lot of work today. You can't judge a nation by it's GDP.

But it will happen, perhaps not in a few years as emkhan says but certainly within this century we'll see the US won't be the only major world player with regards to innovation, military, economic growth.

The Chinese are wisely investing more while the US is spending more. These investments are huge in number and their effects will be greater yet in the long run.

The Chinese kids may be studying at Stanford but they will be the professors of Tsinghua.
