ISLAMABAD: Fateha was offered for the salvation of soul of Osama bin Laden in the National Assembly (NA) by the members belonging to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), without the permission of the Acting Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi. On a point of order, Maulvi Asmatullah of JUI-F raised his hands for dua, and he was followed by two other members of the party, namely Maulana Attaur Rehman, younger brother of the party chief, Maulana Fazalur Rehman and Laiq Muhammad Khan. Although the acting speaker repeatedly asked them not to do so, Maulvi Asmatullah went ahead while ignoring him. Before offering fateha, JUI-F MNA said that as the US had admitted that Osama’s burial in the sea was carried out in accordance with the Islamic rituals, so it had become necessary to offer fateha.
The scene created by the JUI-F stunned the House for a moment but soon this sense of amazement evaporated after the House took up others matters on the agenda. Being the private members day, NA took up various items on its agenda and the chair gave most of the time to the members to speak on points of order.
Owais Laghari of the PML-Q, on a point of order, requested the chair to retain him in the opposition despite the alliance of PML-Q with PPP in the government. “I verbally request you that I am a member of the opposition and consider me on this side of the political divide, as long as the constitutional amendment is not brought about to create a new province in Punjab, comprising of its southern belt as assured to us by the PMLQ leadership before joining the government,” Laghari asserted.
