i don't know if you have afghan experts for mining. so why haven't these mines already been happening? why did the americans 'just happen' to find the information, laying about in some office, about all the minerals etc?
i totally agree that australia should not be in afghanistan so i am happy if australia can be of some benefit for afghanistan. you just tend to criticise for the sake of it!
if people thought all afghans lived in caves they would hardly be expecting them to study in universities and become experts would they, so stop being melodramatic

you didnt know? yes we do have experts in many fields.there are also highly educated afghans who live abroad and want to go and contribute.

there has been a constant instability which doesnt permit to do the job.

Faye not all caves are that bad

there is a bidding process and countries come in to develop the mines based on an agreed upon price, like what china and afghanistan has done. the natural resources are worthless to afghanistan if foreigners dont actually buy the rights to the mines. since afghanistan doesnt actually develop anything, or have the infrastructure to work on the mines itself, unlike china...the only way its profitable at all is for foreign investment. it took arabs decades to nationalize their oil because they had no means of developing the oil fields themselves and no experts to do it.

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

i have a set of beliefs and this is one of them.

It doesnt matter how much you try to explain to me that "how its done with other countries".

Matter of fact Afghanistan is like no other country and those other countries were colonised and plundered and than regulated.

you say the natural resources are worthless if we dont get ripped off by foreign companies and i disagree.

you guys have a very degraded view of Afghanistan, maybe you got that from listening to too much mainstream media and knowing Afghanistan through reports created by foreigners.

graveyardofempires, what on earth are you talking about? afghanistan has had a terrible time for soooooo long, not only from without but also from within. what is it you think, other people are thinking? it is a special country but it is also extremely poor. do you think sitting on the wealth in the ground is going to be a good idea? no, because if the afghans don't get good assistancs from reliable people, and take advantage of their resources, in a few years time some other idiot bunch of fascist pigs will be in there to do the same again. believe me, i do not like mining and i would not put my faith in a mining company. i have seen the destruction in mining towns in australia and read about what misdeeds they are capable of overseas, in poor countries. if afghansiatan is going to allow mining companies to be in afghanistan, which they will, they need afghans that can take control of policing these companies.

since when is investment in a mining operation = being ripped off? hell, even the taliban visited texas to look into the pipeline investments back in the 90s.

tell me, how would afghanistan take advantage of its mines if there is no investment to develop them? go ahead. afghanistan cant even afford to pave the roads in its capital city, let alone develop multi billion dollar mines on its own. so its the mainstream media that leads me to believe that afghanistan is dirt poor? so are u telling me afghanistan isnt actually one of the poorest countries on earth, since u dont have a "degrading" view of afghanistan?

can you explain to me how this "investment" will work?
how it will look like?who will be in charge of the mining company?
will they be national or private?

im not against honest people who will not rip off the Afghan resources and give Afghanistan something like 90% 10% of a mine which will benefit both but if the company can be taken over by foreign companies?
Since afghan government takes most of its expenses from america and they dont have control on their economic developement process and there is a war so you are damn right they cant do it in such a situation but if those situations changed than i can guarantee Afghanistan will do more than just fine.
how is Afghanistan dead poor?Afghanistan is one of the richest country in many aspects people are poor because there is war going on which affects their lives. How about the Afghans in diaspora who are highly educated even in mining dam building, building roads etc.
