  • 2 billion people around the world watch London Royal wedding

video: Royal wedding: William and Kate wed | UK news | guardian.co.uk

NEARLY 2 billion people around the world are today tuning in to watch the future British King Prince William and Kate Middleton getting married.

There are 10 000 journalists and more than 200 telesion cameras covering the event in London. Even Zimbabweans particularly young whites travelled all the way to join thousands who camped outside Westminister Abbey to catch a glimpse of the Royal showcase.

Prince William and Kate have also been given the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to mark their wedding today.

Prince William Wales and Kate Middleton: YES I DO

Buckingham Palace announced at 8am on Friday that the Queen had bestowed the title of Duke of Cambridge on her grandson.

His bride, Miss Middleton, will be known as the Duchess of Cambridge after the royal wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

A dukedom is the highest rank in the British peerage.

They have also been given the Scottish titles of Earl and Countess of Strathearn, which may reflect the fact that they met at St Andrews University.

The couple's third title is a Northern Irish one, Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus.

^Exactly about the dress as shown in a couple photos I couldn't avoid looking at
because they are all over the "news" - this stuff should be locked in
a fashion/society column, not forced on the general public !

The dress was not appropriate with the low front - that wasn't necessary at all,
but a risque touch to appear to look "sexy" on her part or the ideas of the designers.
Maybe they felt she looked a little too "normal/ everyday" and jazzed it up with
              the plunging neckline.

The TIARA was AWFUL - tasteless, especially for the wife of the heir to the throne - IF he ever gets there. I have my doubts.
Her veil was BIZARRE too - ugly. Not princess-like but weird !

He looks like a dud - no one would want to marry HIM except for the dazzling
attention-getting prospect of becoming a "royal".
His face is SO blah, as if there's nobody home there.

Imagine being married to someone like that ? I don't envy her -
but the reason WHY so many people like to see this type of thing
is that for a moment, they picture themselves in that role and
get caught up in the supposed glamour.

For that reason I think it's better to avoid reading or looking at any of this
wedding hype. It's geared to creating such illusions; so is really not healthy.

If they say 2 billion, too, how do they REALLY know that ?
I bet someone said "let's just put down that figure which will sound good and
              no one can question us".
              I don't believe it myself.

Hopefully now the world can get on to truly important subjects, like the wars
              in Afghanistan, Libya etc.

With all due resoect to a very undeserving bunch( what?? I feel generous today), it was Kate middletone's wedding not yours. She has the right to wear whatever she pleases and those who keep her in their high regards have the right to admire or exaggerate their admiration for her dress to whichever extent they wish to do so.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

LOL we don't need royalty we are all for one & one for all (LOOOOOOOOL yeah right)

but no one here would waste money on having a princess wedding
Economists have actually done the math. "Invariably that leads to a loss of output," said Philip Shaw, chief economist at Investec. "So, in terms of the impact on GDP in the economy we're suggesting that it could knock something like a quarter percent off growth."
That translates into a potential loss to the economy of about $50 billion. It better be a heck of a party.

2 billion people need something better to do.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
