Repeat offenders like Dzj I SHOULD BE REMOVED from the Forum,
emkhan as always speaks the truth that all THINK but few DARE to say.
Too much sympathy for such DD's - Deliberate Derailers -
shows a tendency toward that quality of "Sympathy For the Devil" -
a bad song from the bad Rolling Stones - but an aptly named PROBLEM
everywhere today.
So ghundal has said it REALLY well right above.
I was trying to think if there would be some kindly foreigners there to
HELP Afghans who should be not targets.
But frankly, who in their right mind would stay in Afghanistan,
except maybe an octogenarian like Nancy Hatch Dupree - perhaps
has a research reason but frankly who can say ? -
while this abomination has taken place.
The normal behavior is to : get out when a country is under such
massive assault. A friend who camped out in Peshawar during the Soviet
occupation pops into mind. He couldn't stand to be in Kabul, much as
he loved living there, under such cruel domination.
This American was one of that hippie generation who had traveled there in the 70s.
But unlike them, he really loved Afghans & the quiet life in Kabul and
had moved there completely.
I doubt he's there now, because I'm sure he would hate the American
occupation, because his sympathies were fervently with the Afghans in the Soviet time.
I'm explaining this example in a little detail to show who is the real deal
and who are the fakes: these Europeans and Americans who see a way
to carve out a reputation for themselves and make their name when they
are floundering in between careers in America. Such a type may be exemplified
by the vividly pro-American occupation, pro-NATO Sarah Chayes.
Likewise, though we've covered Greg Mortenson's psychology pretty well,
one central ingredient is missing.
He probably had since childhood been shunned by others due to something
weird about him that repelled his peers.
So he may have nursed anger all that time due to the putdowns he received
and vowed to get them back by becoming famous. Then the critics would
bow and scrape before him.
It's terribly unhealthy psychology which drives most foreigners to
go to Afghanistan in a time of crisis.
So ghundal is right: they are there for entirely the wrong reasons
and I would add, WITHOUT the blessing of Allah [swt]. So no one can feel
sorry for those people who have gone in either combat or contractor
roles, hoping to CASH IN themselves ! - while cruelly oppressing other people.
