The online version of Holly Quran (e-Quran) with Bangla translation will be introduced, disclosed the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday.

She said this at the launching ceremony of 33 primary level and 73 secondary level textbooks (e-book) online at her office while urging the affluent people to spend a part of their money on providing computer, laptop, multimedia and other digital equipment for educational institutions in their respective villages. The free of cost textbooks are now be available on its website (http://www.ebook.gov.bd).

    1. The publication of the Quran online with free access is part of the current centre-left wing's government of "Digital Bangladesh 2021", to make a fully digitalized country by that date.

    2. Digitalization is taking place and includes the setting up of e-centres in every upazila (second smallest administrative unit) everywhere, the digitalization of tax collection and other things.

I think this is partly based on the Singapore model (Singapore is also densely populated like Bangladesh) of making a technology-based society.

    3. This is an important event in the history of the holy Quran and Bangladesh seems to be the first Muslim country to do this and 150 million Muslims will benefit.

Muslims in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi Muslims smashed the US-backed Pakistan army in 1971 gaining a free Muslim state.

Prime minister Hasina Wajid has announced this decision and has recently upgraded ties with Saudi Arabia.

The government wants to digitalize the country:

DHAKA, Oct 27: In line with the present government’s vision to build ‘Digital Bangladesh’ by 2021, union information service centres (UISCs) will be inaugurated in 4,498 unions across the country on November 11. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the UISCs form her office at 11 am through video conferencing,” State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak said....

With the expansion of the ICT facilities, he said, a huge number of people will get online and offline facilities such as different government forms and information about agriculture, health, education, legal aid, human rights and employment. Besides, services like composing, printing, photo, scanning, email, internet browsing and multimedia projectors will be provided to the rural people at a nominal price, he said. After assumption of power by the present government, 1,000 such UISCs were set up till August this year under the joint initiative of the Access to Information (A2I) Programme of the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Institute of Local Government (NILG).

Korean electronics giant Samsung has recently started up a R&D centre in Bangladesh, partly because it wanted a suitable Muslim country.

The company has already recruited over 100 Bangladeshi engineers for the centre to develop mobile devices for Asia, Africa and Australia. The centre now plans to hire 1,000 engineers by 2013, said NamKyu Lee, managing director of SBRC Ltd, later at another event at the Westin Dhaka...

"In Bangladesh, our target is to become the best R&D centre in the world," said Lee, adding that the centre would also focus on advanced technology and conduct other IT researches.
