  • Sri Lanka maid kept as slave for 17 years in Saudi Arabia

The Sri Lanka Emabassy in Riyadh has rescued a lanka house maid that has been kept slave by her employer for 17 years , paying no salary and preventing her from communicating with her relatives back home. Local Saudi papers have reported that this is one of the many cases of notorious house maid market in Saudi Arabia .

The maid , Kusuma Nandini, 56, came to Riyadh in 1994 from Sri Lanka and was kept in the house of her sponsor for 15 years before she was transferred to the house of the brother of the employer who kept her for another 2 years but paid her meagre salary.

The case was discovered after the daughter of the maid who lives back home in Sri Lanka informed the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry that her family had not been in contact with her mother for 17 years.

Sunil Wijesinghe, labor welfare officer at the Sri Lankan Embassy said that the case is being raised with the concerned Saudi authorities to release the maid and pay the outstanding salary of SR54,000.

The report added that the maid does not have a passport or a residence permit to prove that she was working in the country.

You sure you want this country to be Emir ul Momeneen of the Muslim world?. Trade Unions is a prohibited word in the land of Arabia so is Workers Rights.

there are a lot of these cases of cruelty and slavery of these workers there. it makes me angry that their respective governments are not doing more to hold that country responsible and help these people.

i head that the employer keeps everyone documents and passports when they give the employers the job position so they don't run away... why should an employer not have the right to quit when he/she wishes to do so??

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

because the employer paid for the employee to come to the country and work under them and wants to make their money back and then some. the sponsorship system is a joke. its just lazy ass gulf arabs not wanting to do these types of jobs because they think they are above such work, so they import millions of foreigners. then gulf arabs complain about the change in demographics.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

The problem is, they might be rich as hell, but they still have the old mentality, i mean they still practice slavery behind close doors. You should see how south asian workers are treated there.

Again i really dont understand how can many salafies defend a society like saudi???

did you guys know that Saudi is one of the top countries for sex trafficking in the world??? i heard even heard young boys from south asia are sex trafficked there. Very sick society behind close doors
