  • Afghan suicide attack kills nine civilians in Khost

Nine civilians have been killed in a suicide attack in the eastern Afghan province of Khost, police say.
The attack took place in a crowded area of Khost city. The dead included six men and three women.
Police said they became suspicious of the bomber and opened fire; he then blew himself up. The explosion damaged houses and shops in the area.
Police said several people were injured in the attack and the death toll was expected to go up.

I never understood what suicide bombers think they achieve by blowing themselves up......especially when innocent civilians end up being injured or killed.

the moral of the joke is that leave the suicide bombers, lets find out that what do the Mullahz get by making these poor ppl blow themselves?

        LOL@ the joke

Yeah, and it is sad because they may leave the world...however, they are not the ones suffering after that. Their families are suffering, those families that lost the civilians are suffering, simply because of one's stupidity.

killing yourself does not give you 'extra points' to Jannat...its a sin to commit suicide. It is sad, it truly is.

Sadly, its a new phenomena that was not utilized by pashtuns in the Afghan Russian conflict.

However as Paul Refsdahl noted in his documentary, Behind the Mask, the first embed with the Taliban done by a Western journalist, the insurgents have poor quality weaponry compared to what they had against the Russians. This invariably leads to the usage of one's own body as a weapon... same issue occured in Palestine with the increased restrictions on weaponry being used by Palestinians against the Israelis per closing of aid/weaponry through Egypt by Mubarak's regime. Dispair leads to disparate measures unfortunately.

Regarding the issue of it being a sin or a non-sin, that may depend on the intended targeting and outcome. For example, the Khost bombing done by that Jordanian doctor:

          http://www.csmonitor.com/World/terro...st-Afghanistan

This put a huge dent in US intelligence gathering capability after 7 CIA agents were killed and even ended up killing a field agent that was directly trained by Scheuer.

One faction of the warrior class looks at it similar to the following event in the time of the first rightly guided Caliph, Abu Bakr:

          http://www.witness-pioneer.org/vil/A..._al_ansari.htm

Al Baraa Bin Malik was helping in the fight against Musaylamah and asked to be hoisted over the high walls of a garden where Musaylamah's men had locked themselves in. The conditions were harsh enough that it was even called the garden of death. It meant near certain death:

"The thin and wiry al-Baraa was soon sitting on a shield. A number of spears raised the shield and he was thrown into the Garden of Death amongst the multitude of Musaylamah's men. He descended on them like a thunderbolt and continued to fight them in front of the gate. Many fell to his sword and he himself sustained numerous wounds before he could open the gate."

The Afghan Study group finds that such attacks increase commensurably with the presence of foreign troops and agents loyal to the unpopular Afghan government:

Not to cheapen the discussion by using movie analogies, but I think this is a fair one. Regarding the psychological impact... divest yourself emotionally from it and recall that scene from the Godfather part 2:

In the film, Michael was in pre-Castro Havana to "divide up the spoils" of Cuba with a bunch of other, thinly disguised, "legit" corporate criminals ("United" Telephone and Telegraph, etc.) They even carve up a symbolic Cuba cake at their meeting. Then when he's taking a cab through town, he sees a suicide bomber blow up some police/troops. This makes a profound impression upon him, seeing how the rebels are willing to die for their cause. Leading him to hedge on committing his full financial investment. Shortly afterwards, the Batista regime falls and everyone has to flee the country.

how do we know that it was a suicide bomber and not someone who left it somewhere and walked out of the scene? or that they were not forced to be there with the bomb attached to them.

Better yet, how do we know if it it was the CIA, or Blackwater? They obviously don't care about Afghans, since their not in no way related to anyone in Khost.

I just checked the Talibans official press releases, and didn't find this attack. The article said the Taliban claimed responsibility, but where?

But darn CNN experts said so.
