  • President Obama Backs Taliban Talks

This, I believe, was inevitable. I wonder how much of this is just stage politics, however.

    From the BBC:

US President Barack Obama has backed Afghan efforts to "open the door" to Taliban militants who renounce violence and cut ties with al-Qaeda.

He was speaking after talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Washington.

Mr Karzai is in the US for four days of meetings aimed at repairing rocky relations between Kabul and Washington.

Afghan president and US secretary of state play down differences ahead of meeting, but relations remain difficult

Hopefully he goes through with this committment.

Obama is another clown like bush. Taliban has made it very clear they will not compromise.

Long live the Islamic emirate. Long live the Islamic resistance.

Which taliban have tried to reach out? I have never heard of them reaching out to the invaders.

wait another year and they would be running back with their tales between their legs, the Taliban have made it clear over and over again that they would not talk to the karzai government until the all the foreign forces have left the country

Well, it´s not as simple as that. Honestly, as bad as the wars are getting, and as brutal as they are, if they continue for years to come, I can see Iraq and Afghanistan becoming virtually uninhabitable. At least for a few centuries.

Took me forever to find it, but here it is:

                http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/10/06/afghan.saudi.talks/?iref=mpstoryview

It seems all parties recognized their defects and wanted some sort of road to peace. I´m not sure what can happen now though.

That's actually a lie. They never wanted to negotiate. And they still don't.

Their website is is taken down again. So I can't find the original repsonse to those allegations.

But here is a copy of one of their repsonses to the propaganda CNN and the likes spread.
